Sounds like you might have a problem in the pump system that pumps the fluid from the main tank to the heated tank... or they forgot to fill the main tank. Time for a dealer visit in any case.

I'm guessing your dealer forgot to fill it when prepping your X for delivery. According to the owners manual, it should last the length of time between services "but may need an earlier refill if driving in cold weather or in a "spirited" manner").
Or maybe you have been driving under full throttle pulling a 6,000 trailer up hill in Siberia against an 90mph headwind for the past 1,000 miles? ![]()

Just had mine changed for first time at 10K miles (first major service.) Dealer failed to mention it takes 1.5 hours just for that procedure alone. At least the waiting room was comfortable for the 3 hour oil change.

Yeah, from what I have read it is not just filling the main tank, but flushing it of the old solution as well.

Yeah, apparently the stuff freezes at 23 degrees F, and only the small tank is heated. Since the small tank only holds enough fluid for 2-3 thousand miles, if the temperature stays below 23 degrees for 2-3 thousand miles you'll have to refill the heated tank directly, since the system will never have a chance to pump fluid from the main tank to replenish the small tank, the main tank being frozen.

The techs had to get out the cheat sheet and scratch their heads. Mine was the first one they did. It's fine now. I just wonder if they put the correct motor oil in the engine.

Mine was replaced at 10K miles. First time the dealer had to do it .. which caused some excitement within the service area. I'm now at 18K and still going strong since the last replacement. Should last until the next service which is rapidly coming it. No prob during the free service period ... but no one seems to know how much it will cost, once the bmw free service period ends .... !
