purchasing new winter wheel setup

I have found a set of wheels I'd like to purchase for winter use. I will be putting them on a 2012 35D with the Sport Activity Pack (ZAP), with the 20" wheels w ZSP only (2LE).

The summer wheels measure 10Jx20 ET:40 (F) and 11Jx20 ET:37 (R)

I am interested in the wheels mentioned in this post. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...10-2011-a.html
Post #4 from LeMans X5 states the rear wheel bore size is incorrect, will this adapter work? Home Page > Search > ES1895165 > ES#1928282 Hub Centric Ring Adapter Set - 747260

Now I am left with a question regarding the offset of the wheels, both wheels measure 9x19.
Part # 36-11-6-785-503 (f) has an ET of 37 and, part # 36-11-6-785-504 (r) has an ET 0f 18.
Will the ET 18 make the wheels stick out to far on the rear? Would it be better to go with the ET 37 on all four corners?

Does any one have pictures of 9x19 ET 37 or 9x19 ET 18 on the rear of their X5?

Using BMW oe wheel 'style #s' would help us/me do some digging for you...as for LeMans' post #4, if your proposed wheels are the same as in his reference, the rear wheels need to be bored by a machine shop to fit on the hub...increase bore from 72.5mm to 74 mm.

This handy post may help you on wheel size, offset, bore, etc :

motordavid,

The wheels that will come stock are Style 214, they are the 20" wheels I referenced.

The winter wheels I am planning on buying are style 298 M, these are the 19" wheels that were discussed in the post started by MJM in the post I linked to from Sept. 2010.

I misread the post, I was thinking the rear wheel bore size was to large and would therefore require the ring adapter I linked.

I think I have found the correct part now. Home Page > Search > ES183 ES179 ES2168006 ES205191 ES189 ES194 ES205192 ES205193 ES1899555 ES1899556 ES1899554 ES7283 > ES#1899554 TRAK+ Hub Adapter - 5mm - 1075725740 I was hopeing to not have to use any spacer although, 5mm is not much at all. I will try and find just an adapter as I really don't want a spacer.

Thanks for the correction on the bore size.

coloexpat,
No prob...glad to help. Fwiw, there have been a few recent posters that have reported success with the bore job.
And, since you are in Germany, I would think finding a quality 'machinist' shouldn't be too difficult.

PS: CO to Germany, huh? Really ex-pat?

I'm not sure how that would work out having the wheels machined. The insurance is quite particular over here. If I get in an accident here during the winter months (Oct-easter) even when it's not my fault, the insurance can opt NOT to pay for my damages or the damages to the other car(s) if I do not have winter tires installed (not AS tires).

I'm just worried IF there happened to be a failure due to the wheel bore being enlarged I could be held liable. I hope to find an adapter to correct the size issue with out having to push the wheel out.

I moved over here in 2003. Was born and raised in Colorado (miss it very much). My wife is German so, we moved back to her home. One day we'll be back stateside, I can't stay away from Colorado forever

Those adapters you post will NOT work. You will need H&R adapters that are made in 15mm and 20mm widths.....
TRAK+ Hub Adapter - 15mm or 20mm...Adapts your 74mm series hub to a 72.5mm wheel

These wheel hub adapters from H&R adapt your 74mm hub to the smaller 72.5mm BMW wheel. Made from high grade aluminum and are drilled for the stock bolt pattern. These are available in two thicknesses (15mm and 20mm) and longer wheel bolts are required.

Mfg Part# 3075740725 for 15 mm 4075740725 for 20mm

approx 130$ plus 10 bolts and shipping.

Anyway,

I would NOT do this!!!
I would buy the proper wheels for your X5.....I bought from BMW Dealer 4 Style 214 20" X10" (FRONTS) for my x5d, and with this set up, the rears still look like they can use 25mm spacers and alittle bit funny with out them. Tires are NOKIAN Hakk's 275/40/20's. 19's will look even worse with the black plastic fender flares...and the adapters will be a pain every Spring when they get "corroded" /stuck on..
If I was going to do this again, I may buy just 2 new fronts & 2tpms for those wheels and mount these in the rear with the new snows while using my original fronts with the orig TPMS in the front and just change the front tires every fall and spring. In comparison, the wider snows are slightly worse than 18X8" 255/55 18" HAKsnow tires I used on my old VW TOUAREG Hope this helps....
I could post pictures after Thanksgiving or the first week in Dec.....

I just want to confirm with the people that's already done this for the X5. Will this fit my 2008 X5?

Home Page > Search > 4075740725 > ES#1905746 TRAK+ Hub Adapter - 20mm - 4075740725

I called and they said that it will only fit the E39 models. I really want to get this so I can install a set of X6 wheels on my 2008 X5. Thanks.

I may have the part #'s wrong, BUT HR is the company that makes them and they do make an adapter to mount X6 rear wheels on an e70 X5. Do a search on this forum and also try Turner Motor Sports......I did think about that option ......Briefly!
