I saw you did this 3 months ago. Was it on a stock X5 e70 steering wheel? Could you provide me with instructions? Any chance you know the part number? Thx.

Pretty easy, just take 2 allen wrenches and poke them into the back of the wheel (there are 2 ports you can feel with your fingers behind the wheel) and release the airbag springs so it will pop out. Then all there is to do is just unscrew the switches, unplug and swap!
Unhook your battery too so you dont have any neckbreaking airbag issues ![]() There is a youtube vid for airbag removal too, work blocks my streaming video so use this search link and you will find it: bmw airbag removal - Google Search

Just paint it?
Couldn't I just do a quick sand and paint the button housing with satin black? I think that would be better and worth the risk than spending $200 for some peeling action.
