I looked at this a few months ago, as I may have to replace the pad on the top door.
Looking at the instructions on the OEM service DVD, you have to remove several screws that come in from the sides of the glove box. This entails removing the screen in the central console, and pulling the vent grille on the right side. After reviewing all of the sub tasks to remove the glove box, I closed the DVD and poured a few fingers of whiskey. On my car, the tasks remain undone. Best wishes, Dick |

Hi. Thanks for the info. I don't have that DVD to look at :-(. I removed the screen and the vent system. So there are screws on the left side of the glove box on the outside accessable by the vent/screen? Any other screws that you can recall or the diagram's on your DVD show?

Hey NV Dog, sorry, I can not recall all of the info from the DVD, but I seem to recall, one had to remove the passenger footwell cover as those wily Krauts put two or three screws on the lower edge of the glove box. The screw heads are readibly accessible by ultra flexible 7 year old Olympic gymnastic finalists.
Wow, that was some set of instructions posted by David Mc. Last time I read anything that complicated was an official US Navy publication on how to defuse a runaway atomic reactor on an Ohio class submarine. Best wishes, Dick |

Thanks for the diagram David on the glove box. I didn't know it has so many features in it. Do you have a document on removal and replacement? I will look again for more screw locations and see if I can figure it out. Maybe I have to drop the passenger footwell cover and also remove the air vent? Seems like it shouldn't be that hard, but of course it is!

You should see the rest of the workshop manual, it's a shame that they don't seem to realise that X5's also come with diesel engines...

Just out of curiosity...why are you trying to pull the glovebox out?
Thanks
