Not here in the Denver metro area. Anything with the mileage and options this vehicle has was easily over $40K at the time. Even today I don't see as low mileage, well optioned 4.8 X5 for $35K. Anything less than $35K has 70K miles (one has 71K, the other 82K) and neither is as well optioned as this one. $37K will get you one with 58K miles and it is not as well optioned. Stepping up to $38K buys one with 46K miles but still not as well equipped. $39.5K gets one with 30K miles (2008 model), nicely optioned.

The retail price of my X5 was $42K, I'm sure with the changing of the new year that's gone down a little bit but it was an excellent deal...and still is.

I forgot to discuss this- skidpad is not a good judge of overall handling- it just shows how well tire grip and suspension react via compression and rebound, but nothing to the steering response.

I show 4 or 5 within 150 miles of Denver on Autotrader that are under $40K. And a couple of those I think are CPOs from Schomp BMW. In any event, $35K for a non-CPO 4.8 with decent miles can be had--if there isn't one in someone's area you can find one in another city, have it inspected and shipped.

Also the X5 has towing package, which I don't need. Is it easy to uninstall them? and do I need to get a new bumper cover (since right now it has indent in the middle of the bumpber?)
Are you SERIOUS?????

You are renting a car for a year, year and a half, and you are going to remove the hitch and put a new bumper cover on?!??!?

This thread is nuts.

$40K is not $35K. As I said all of the vehicles under $35K have at least twice the miles of the X5 I bought and are not as well equipped. There are a few bumping up on $40K which have low mileage and seems to be well equipped. However we're still talking a difference of $5K. And let's not forget we're now four months (and a new year) later than when I bought so it's reasonable to assume prices have come down some.

Nothing ia definate. But one thing im sure is that i ll be using a car at least for a year and and half before i graduate. I am pretty sure im gonna be using car for more than that but never know when i get a job in my home country and is forced to sell all my things. And tow hitch coming off (add areo kit) will be my ideal set up but i dont have to. I was just wondering how hard to do it since i like to keep my car as how I wanted.

Just leaving options open. Hehe

Wow..... quite the thread!

You are obviously a fortunate person with supportive (Indulgent perhaps?) parents. A lot of people would love to have your problem.

I would not like to preach to you, or to restate what I or others have said earlier

I am not assuming your principles or priorities are wrong, but I have seen the attitude of "I will be able to afford it and much more" in a year or two after I graduate, and so, no big deal to add several thousand dollars and increased financial risk (fuel and maintenance etc) on top of college and dental school loans which you may or may not have. (Kudos to your parents if you don't)

I would say..... delayed gratification, make a smart and financially prudent decision, save the balance in money that comes from it, start saving and investing, buy your next car with cash when you start your lucrative career..... and don't get caught in the "I need to reward myself with all I can get" mentality that affects some professionals to their detriment.

All the best. I admire your decision to ask for advice.

A CPO will be more expensive than a non-CPO for the most part. I was able to negotiate $3K off my final price even on my CPO. Point is, there are many non-CPO '08 4.8s out there in the mid to upper $30Ks--with room to negotiate.

Schomp is a one price dealer. The price they're asking is the price you'll pay. No negotiations.

Again: The vehicles you're referring to are higher priced than what I paid. Likewise four months have passed and we've entered a new year since when I purchased my X5. I would expect prices to have come down some since then.

With that said I'm not sure what your point is with all of this.
