My hunch is that carve out on the left side with the netting went away with the LCI. Indications suggest that the Storage packet only includes the interior rails and tie-down eyelets.

Here's a 40d with the Storage paket:

Gebrauchtwagen: BMW, X5, xDrive 40d Head-Up Dynamik Drive StopGo, Diesel,

The BMW DE website configurator also makes no mention of the net on the left side when the Ablagenpaket (storage package, SA493) is chosen, only the rails and lashing eyelets.

The parts for the small net is still available. Part Nr. 51 47 91 3 8217
Might also need the securing pin: 52 20 711 5 704
The elastic band: 51 47 913 8 216
(Part numbers are for black interiors)

I have ordered a 2012 as well, and was told that the M sport now has the factory fitted plastic cover at the rear arches to avoid the paint chipping issue. Doesn't yours have that?

The rocker panels and the fender flares are painted on mine (built mid-January of 2012). However, yours could be configured differently since you're in another region. I hope BMW will do something about this issue. While the rocker panels and the flares can be simply replaced or repainted, there's not much you can do about the rear doors.
