I wouldn't ask the service department, since wipers aren't covered, but I would have asked my sales rep who just sold me the vehicle.

Not necessarily luck; I pick my dealers based not on their new car prices but on their service, choose privately owned dealerships, and cultivate relationships there. It pays off.

The SA told me it's in the hands of Service Dept. and I shall talk to them as he could only do so much.

I do agree with you tho that dealers should be picked up based on their service, but to build up a relationship with them, I guess we have to shed a lot of dough over the period of many years in order to catch their tail. Usually, they don't even remember you at the next visit.

FYI.. "SA" is "Service Advisor"... so service. "CA" is "Client Advisor" or sales puke.

There are multiple stories of customers, who think they have long term relationships, who stop in to see their salesmen, who golf... and who ultimately discover that over the course of buying 2, 3, 4 cars and relying on this relationship to buy you some goodwill, discover that have been screwed and are grossly overpaying. Dropping a lot of money doesnt necessarily buy you anything- they might just think you are dumb and rich.

Thank you ard, thought SA was the Sales Agent. And yes, I do agree they think you're just dumb and rich and 5/6 hundred dollars is nothing for you. I was told if I could spend $50,000 on a car, I should not be worried about $500, by the SA. That's sort of taking me for a ride, I think.

If you are going to use the service from the dealer you buy from ask the CA who the best SA to use is. If they serve you well use that SA all of the time.

I purchased 2008 x5 4.8i CPO in 2010 at 46.7K. They replaced bearing in front wheel, passanger seat sensor and rear LED light last year. They did not want to replace LED light under CPO first, but agreed later. The blow motor was replaced 2 weeks ago. I had to pay $50 per visit. My CPO expires next fall and I'm going to trade this car in - it is expencive to own it without warranty.

So, you've only had a sensor, a light and a blow motor go out in a year and a half and that's too much maintenance ? It hasn't cost you anything yet + if you have a good Indy you don't have to pay dealer prices. I have an '08 4.8 CPO as well purchased same month as yours and I have had one daytime running light go out-- that's it. My '01 X5 I had for 9.5 years--just normal wear and tear items as well on it.

Passenger seat sensor is inside the seat, they had to remove seat cushion to replace it. How much would it cost without CPO? At least $300. Wheel bearing? Another $100 - $200? LED light? The stripes on trunk lead? The part itself is $150. And my SA said it would be $500 to replace blow motor without CPO. My previous 2004 X5 4.4 at 98K had coolant leak problem under intake, coolant pipe. Dealer said it would be $3000 to fix.I paid $1500 to local shop and traded it in right away.

Well doing due diligence before buying you would have found out that the 4.4 had a lot more mechanical issues than the 3.0. And again, you are talking dealer prices--an Indy is probably half the price.
