Remove glovebox to change trim

Hi

This is my first thread

So, Im finally changing out the wooden trim for alu. Got the middle trim done. The doors i understand how to do. Have to remove the whole door panel. I saw a video on YouTube where this was done for an E70 so i think i should be able to do it.

Im struggeling with the glovebox. I took the middle vent off. Removed the screen. Then removed the silver trim under the right vent, then was able to remove the right vent. Removed one screw on each side that looked to hold the glovebox. Removed the trim aroud the cd player inside the glovebox. A new screw was revealed and removed. Also found 2 other screws on each side of the glovebox light. The box is kinda loose, but won't come out. I can't find any more screws and the box seem to be looser on the right side.

I would really appreciate if someone could guide me the rest of the way. I understand once you get the box somewhat out (or all the way out?), you are to remove a pin and just install the new trim. I have searched the forum, but nothing is detailed enough.

Thanks

First post here too...

You don't have to remove the glove box to pull the trim. Remove the small plastic cap behind it as there is one screw under it, and few more in the middle in the shifter and buttons area. Then you can slide the trim towards the seats, and then for the last section in the front, you pull the whole piece towards the back of the car!

Hi and thanks for your reply.

I managed to do it by removing the whole thing. Im not entirely sure what you mean. I found it really hard to remove and install the new trim even after eventually getting the glovebox out. The metal rod was tight, and the stop disc for the other plastic rod was a nightmare to reinstall.

Regarding the glovebox: When i thought all screws were out, there was still 4 more hidden under the glovebox "well". The well had to come out in 2 pieces to be able to get it out. And by "out" i only mean 10 cm out due to some electrical cables which didn't have much slack.

Now i "only" have the doors left

I covered mine with vinyl film, so I only removed the long center ones. For the dash and door pieces, I just applied on top without removing them. Overall it was a 1h job :-)

Its done !!! The trim is changed to brushed alu on my 2008 E70.

If i had known then what i know now, i would most likely not started this project. 8 hrs the trim change out took me. But ofcourse the result was great.

My fingers are sore, back is hurting, but my 25 year old Glenlivet is doing a great job as painrelief

The results are worth it, what did you have before wood?
I changed mine to dark bamboo from brushed alu, the brushed scratches and marks really easy.

Glovebox was def the longest job and yes you do have to remove it, impossible otherwise

I changed from walnut to the scratch magnet (brushed alu). I have read several places that people experience these to scratch, but i had to install it. I just love the alu look. It it becomes really bad, i will just cover it vinyl. I will never ever change the trim again

I have a crack (due to cold presumably) in the glovebox trim (light poplar wood) and it does look like you have to remove the glovebox itself to do this, which also involves removing the whole middle area on the dash. No thanks. I probably wouldn't even pay a professional to do it either... just too much removal to do this one part.
