X pipe on a 4.8i
I went to get a price quote on getting an x pipe installed and to do a resonator delete today. They quoted me $753.xx give or take $50 depending on how stubborn my exhaust is to remove. Isn't that pricing a little steep? Also, he was wondering why I wanted to put an x pipe in when the car comes stock with an "H" pipe already. Are people removing the resonators and the h pipe and just installing an x pipe in place? Anyone have photos of the bottom of their car after doing this mod? I can only find stuff on the e53s Thanks! |

Yeah, basically just a resonator delete and replaced with an X-pipe. Just gives more growl and rumble. I've been wanting to do it, but not for anything north of a few hundred bucks. Seems like your $7xx quote is crazy high--where'd you go? The dealer?

I went to a local store by the name of chikara motorsports. They wanted to charge me 6.5 hrs of labour and another 100 or so for material....
Funny thing was they called me initally when i had emailed them and told me there is a mid section for our vehicle that can be had in the $500 region and said that was pricey so to bring the vehicle in and see how much it cost to just make a custom one. When they told me the price, I nearly shat my pants and reminded them of the conversation on the phone. He said he doesn't remember saying such a thing...ah well:.. On to another shop for a quote Just curious if people get rid of the h pipe and resonators and place an x pipe or leave the h pipe and add an x pipe (pointless IMHO). Almost makes more sense to leave the h, remove the resonators, and just do a straight pipe in place... Thoughts please.. |

From my knowledge, an x pipe is better in the fact that it allows the exhaust pulses (from cylinders) to follow each other and create "momentum" (pushing and pulling pressures) therefor creating better flow. Obviously deleting the resonator will provide more sound. As far as I know, an H pipe is really only to equalize pressure and allow more free-flow but not efficiently. Then again, this is coming from research I did over a year ago so I could be incorrect.

The information you have found is the exact same thing I found. When I was at the shop, I told him if we go ahead, we might as well remove the h and put an x instead. But ya, going to hold off cause that's stupid money to pay for a little more growl...though it would be nice

Refer to photo 6,14,15 of the following link. It gives a pretty good idea what it would look like on an e70
