Which p/n injector is right on my N55??

I’m getting ready to replace the injectors on my 2012 X5 N55, hoping to resolve a fuel dilution issue. Unfortunately I’m having trouble figuring out the right part number injectors to use. I’ve pulled the part number off the current injectors, but there’s a service bulletin that says to use a different part.

Service bulletin SI B13 03 15 says that there are errors with the injector part numbers in the electronic catalog, so the proper injectors need to be determined by other methods. The March 2017 version of the bulletin says to read the number off the injectors, or if injectors have been changed and the wrong ones used, open up a PuMA case to get the proper part number. Then an April 2017 version of the bulletin says to use ISTA to determine if the injectors are EU5 or EU6 versions, and if they’re EU5, choose the injector part number based on the HPFP model (Continental or Bosch). I can’t run the ISTA test, but the current injectors are a EU5 part number, so I’m assuming that EU5 is correct. However the current injector part number is the one for use with the Bosch fuel pump, but the engine has a Continental HPFP.

So do I stick with the current injector part number, or move to the one the bulletin recommends for use with the Continental pump? Normally I’d just stick with what’s in there, but could the fuel dilution issue be relate to the wrong injectors being used?

Any insights on which one to use or how to get an answer from BMW on the right part?

Thanks!

Use realOEM.com and put in your VIN then find the part. They usually have the most current post number including "supersedes xxx". I think my foxwell scanner will pull the part number.

Thanks for the RealOEM suggestion. But the BMW service bulletin is saying that the parts catalog information isn't accurate and shouldn't be used.

The bulletin provides a process for determining what should be the proper part number. My concern is that of the two part numbers it lists, it's telling me to put in the one that's different than what the factory installed.

So do I trust the bulletin, or stick with what the factory installed? The injectors are expensive enough that I'd prefer not to be guessing which is right...

I have the same situation. I ended up installing the 13 64 7 597 870 which crosses to 62805 (Bosch/rock auto). I purchased the 13 53 7 568 607 (62804) originally per the SIB only to find that they wouldn’t work based on just a physical comparison.

The top of the 62804 where the hp fuel line connects is square on 3 sides and rounded on one side. After some searching, these are meant to be held down closer to the nozzle end with brackets and then the spark plug/injector “wells” are covered by a metal plate. The 62805 is held in place towards the top via the square shaped, stepped part of the injector.

I am chasing an intermittent choppy idle and very slight bucking (mild misfire) when I gently release the brakes from a stop and creep. I have smelled a stronger than usual fuel smell when pulling the oil cap after a significant drive. And I notice a buildup of sooty grime on the back of the car (could just be from burning oil..) Fuel economy is eh but it is winter.

I have coded the injectors, but I just have a feeling something isn’t right. Tonight I noticed that when I have the map light on, I can see it flickering which changes with rpm. It seems to also follow the injector pulse meaning when I blip the throttle the intensity and frequency of the light flicker changes and then quits briefly while the engine coasts back to idle then the flickering continues. After a bunch of searching, I stumbled on this thread.

Any updates?

I have a 2012 built 12/11 ( which makes things great when buying parts right at the production change cutoff...) 185k Miles, tons of work and parts to save this e70 from a salvage yard. Yes, I probably sound crazy but it was a price I couldn’t pass up and I’ve been servicing it since it was out of warranty so I know most of the history.
