Yet another FSR thread??

Hi all,
Noob to Xoutpost and glad to be here. That said, I have owned several BMW's over the years. Last month, I picked up an 08 X5 3.0si and I absolutely love it. I went away on a business trip and my wife drove it for a couple of days and low and behold....when I get back home, the HVAC blower fan in the front stopped working. Rear works great. I checked the fuses and they are all ok...btw, whoever designed the front fuse panel under the pass side dash was not the brightest. It is a PITA to get to and then when you get there a MFPITA to get the fuses in and out! But I digress....I know that FSR's have been an issue in E36's, E39's, etc. and even in the 01/02 X5's. However I find it hard to believe that BMW has still not designed a better solution in all these years. Or, maybe they did and I have another problem. I searched the E70 forums and see where FSR's have been mentioned as a potential problem but did not see any replies officially stating it was the culprit.

Do you guys think it is the FSR or do you think there is another issue? The buttons/indicators all work ok, ie. the fan increases when you push the bigger fan button, the meter goes to full when you hit the defrost button, but the fan does not come on all. No heat or AC.
TIA,
J

Just went through it on my 09. It was a bad connector. It was replaced under the warranty.

Hi,
Just to close this thread up I wanted to report back. I ordered a new Valeo FSR part # 64119265892-262 from KO Performance for $77.55 shipped and installed it in about 30 mins. Install was much easier than expected. You'll need a T-20 torx bit plus a short and long handled screwdriver for the T20 bit. The FSR attaches to the blower motor housing in the passenger footwell and you need to drop the motor down to access the 2 T20 screws that hold it on.

Everything works perfectly now!

I find it hard to believe that as smart as the German engineers are that FSR's are still a problem in BMW's for the past 20+ years....

How can you judge that fast the problem was from the FSR? Dose the problem of your fan happens all the time every day? In my case it happens max once a day ...

Yes, my problem happened all the time every day. That being said, historically speaking, FSR problems have plagued BMW's for years on several different car models. Many FSR reports are intermittent and others are all the time.

Final Stage Resistor or aka Final Stage Unit. It is the resistor connected to the blower motor.
