How about a bit more detail?
Like what reprogramming was done; what you are doing to shift into sport mode, miles, warranty, repair history' Shifting is one thing- selecting a mode is not "shifting"....does the handle move appropriately, but the tranny doesnt enter that mode...or does it not even move? I have the parking brake actuator replaced last week at the dealer and for some reason they have to perform the complete reprogramming(my SA said it's not the registration of the the new unit). I was trying to pull the shifter over to sport(S/M) mode while driving on the freeway today and found it was blocked. My X has 71000Km and only has extended warranty.

Bring it back, tell them they screwed something up.
Don't agree to any up front 'estimated charges' |

Finally fixed. Replace the gear selector switch (C$1220.00) + C$556 labor.
Also replace the vertical motor for the telescopic steering wheel due to grinding noise, another C$1331.85 (956.55+375.5 labor). Luckily both are covered by the extended warranty. Lost memory settings for both keys (comfort access), dealer found that the car battery was bad (5yrs), cost me C$345.00 (206+139 labor. Expensive vehicle to own

Dealer f-ed up, but just stuck the warranty company with the bill. A perfectly working shifter doesn't just break coincidentally ....

I had noticed it was noisy and a little bit loose even before it was into the dealer's hand. Anyway, I have the same feeling, but, what can we do? I know what you are talking about. Especially, my '08 only has 49,400 miles.

Diagnostic and re-programming are included only if the repairs are covered by the extended warranty on mine.
