When I hold reset for the rear brakes is shows "reset?"...I press and hold again and it shows "----" for mileage and doesn't reset. My NAV screen still shows that the pads need to be replaced. I re-used the sensor because I didn't damage it when it came out...do I HAVE to replace the sensor? |

Most likely, yes. The E70 sensor has two stages. If the first stage has tripped, you won't be able to reset it, even if the second stage (which says "replace pads now" hasn't tripped.

The stupid thing is that I originally bought the sensor when I bought the pads at BMW, but late last night, while trying to save time, I figured I didn't need to replace it (the service tech at BMW told me I don't HAVE to replace it unless I break it while removing it, so I bought it just in case). I replaced it this morning and viola, computer was able to reset. |

yea they HAVE to be replaced to reset them once they reach a certain point. That is your only issue. Once you change it, it will reset no problem.
