I can tell you my early 07 build was damn near flawless and my 11 has been anything but. Not sure in terms of 08 specifically though. Agree with the post above about being ready to pay repair bills befitting the msrp. Thank god BMW essentially subsidizes their leases.

My late build 07 has been flawless with the exception of some minor issues all covered under CPO. All of my BMW tech friends that work both indie and at a stealership say the 4.8 version of the X5 is pretty good AS LONG AS YOU MAINTAIN IT WELL. Mine just hit 99k yesterday

Whew! Mine just rolled over to 53k a week ago and I cringed. Hoping mine lasts. Off to order ATF, power steering fluid and differential fluid now...

Speaking of 'maintaining it well"... will you change the ATF at 100k? Or did you do it already? Just curious...

I would, ABSOLUTELY, have them do that proior to the CPO ending- even if it is a few hundred miles, just in case. I'd put money on the SA trying to talk you out of it... "really should leave well enough alone" and "we see things fail after they change the fluid"

I'm going to ask them to look at it. It goes in next week for a last "check" before it runs out (I drive a LOT)

My 2008 4.8 (build date 12-2007) has been in the shop maybe 5 times over five years for items covered under warranty and extended warranty.

Some major stuff but mostly electronic related. The only mechanical issue I remember was leaking hose fittings on the transmission. I hope the electronic gremlins have been dealt with as I am at 103K miles.

I suspect at some point I will be paying for something expensive. BTW, my indie says the shocks and struts on this bad boy are $1K each.

They usually last until about 150K miles he says.

My '08 x5 just sprung a slow coolant system leak - and i've been out of warranty for a year now. Coincidentally, just passed 40k miles and starting noticing intermittent coolant drip under the (US model) passenger side while parked in driveway. Taking it in to the dealer to get pressure tested/diagnosed.

Searching the web - this could be either the water pump or plastic end piece on the radiator. Either way - looking at over $1k repair out of pocket.

Hoping this is the only major issue to come up for some time.
