Aerodynamic kit (replica) installed this weekend
I purchased an aftermarket replica kit on eBay after reading several writeups and reviews from members. Aero Kit = $300 Paint = $300 BMW hardware (additional) = $20 PDF instruction found on this forum Total Time = 3 hours It took me 1.5 hours for each front and rear. Fit and finish looks great to me for a replica kit, but I do suggest getting the BMW clips with self taping screws as the one provided just don't fit right. 16 clips and 20 self tapping screws from Tisher, look them up on RealOEM. You can use the supplied tapping screws for anything else that don't need to be secured into the BMW clips. Pretty simple DIY and overall fun project to do . Pics below. Additional BMW hardware (must have for replica) Left is BMW/ right is supplied aftermarket Front: Rear: Last edited by balx5; 03-30-2013 at 01:35 AM. |

significant savings and worth it for a part that is aesthetics only.
Since you know the inner workings of the install, can you tell me why [on mine] the rear quarter of the aero kit may not be flush against the black bumper? The part just beyond the exhaust pipes, that is actually on the side of the car. Can it be adjusted easily to be flush?

Looks good for aftermarket...
Our X5s are almost identical, im currently in the process of buying 20" reps, either 300 or 310.

oh, and you might want to add the arch flares too if you are considering 20" wheels.

rh71,
You might want to remove the painted rear side piece and try to refit it again. It's a very tight fit and the painted cover has to clip on to the black frame piece leaving not gap. Sorry I dont have pic of the rear assembly or I could point it out to you more easily. If there is a gap it might have to be readjusted so its closer to your bumper. I hope that helps. Quote:

Wow same deal here, I was contemplating about the 300's too as they are concave and split spokes and of course the 214' but cant seem to find a set right now. And yeah the rear arches too...
