Pano Sunroof

If it wont track back but will lift up and down does that mean the whole cassette thing needs to be replaced? I've read that its like $3k to replace. Wonder if my aftermarket extended warranty will cover it?

No way what? Anyway, I was messing with it and the rear smaller glass stuck up on one side. I work near the dealer so I took it there and they manually closed. appointment for next thurs to fix that and a TSB. Hope I don't go broke.

While waiting I did a quick check online of their inventory and luckily they didn't have any X5M's in stock.

The 2nd smaller glass in my 2005 X got stuck lopsided (1 side up, 1 side half down). It was going to cost a small fortune to fix.. I ended up just locking the glass closed... It took 5 minutes and required unscrewing the 2 hex screws on either side and poping it out of the tilt mechanism...

The rest of the roof works perfect. I lost the 2nd smaller glass ability to tilt but other than that the main panel works fine..

The e70 should be similar.. why spend a fortune to simply have that 2nd panel ability to tilt 3 inches... You may want to consider just locking it permanently down...

Good luck.
Rob

I would consider that in an instant but the main glass doesnt slide back at all right now. I got in, started the car and put the sunroof back and it made a loud crack noise and now it wont go back. I could easily live with a fixed smaller glass but not the bigger one.

Germans usually don't sell individual parts for mechanisms, that's just the way it works. Yes, you will have to replace the entire moonroof cassette.

I work at a German company that supplies brake components for various car manufacturers and its safe to say that we also don't sell "individual" parts, just entire assemblies.

Dropped off my car this a.m. lets all pray to the car gods that my aftermarket warranty covers the repair.

Also got dropped off (out of loaners) in their shuttle which is a 2013 X535d and whoa was I not impressed. Contour seats are a must! And my leg got hella dirty from those dumb aluminum running boards. It really felt like the dash has shrunk, it seemed bigger in my 08.

One thing I wish that was available in the 08's was the leather wrap dash. Makes such a difference in terms of luxury feel of the interior.

Almost same thing (not closing back) happened to mine a few weeks ago, good thing it happened inside my garage... I locked my X5 overnight, and guess what, everything went back to normal the next day...

Mine made a noise that clearly sounds like snapping. Good news is my call to the warranty company was promising. Sunroof is not excluded.
