Aero kit paint experience and req 4 suggestions

Thought would share a lousy experience at a paint shop yesterday. Hope it helps the next person looking for a quote from a paint shop.

I ordered the aftermarket E70 (08) aero kit from eBay. The kit looks good and came in a nice shipping box. I paid about 250 for it and for the price it looks great. It even has the original BMW logos on it, though probably were a leftover from the mold taken from the OEMs.

Took it to the paint shop, had parked the car up front and I had the kit in the original shipping box. The guy from the paint shop offered to take the box to the shop while I drove the car around and like an idiot I trusted him. When I came around he already had the box open and had taken out one of the primed pieces and taken a blade to it and ripped off the primer to show what a poor job it was and he will have to prime it all over and then paint it. What an a$$. Then he proceeded to take the parts to my car and demonstrate how the parts did not fit properly and if I was sure if it was the right kit for me. Needless to say I wanted to get out of there as fast as I could, especially so after he said it will take at least a 1000 to just paint the kit. Now I have two panels with inch long sections where the primer was taken off. Hopefully the paint over will not be a problem.

I am thinking of buying aerosol cans of paint from eBay or Amazon and painting it myself. Looking for any experiences and suggestions from folks who might have painted it themselves?

Any paint shop suggestions for the San Francisco Bay area, especially East Bay?

Thx

That body shop sounds very shady.

I paid about $350 to have my aero kit painted. I installed it myself. $1000 seems extremely high. Go get some quotes around your town.
