Considering 19" Staggered Winter Setup
Hey guys... new to the forum and new X5 owner. Long time BMW owner.
![]() Just picked up an 07 4.8 Sport with the 20" wheels. Considering a Beyern 19" 8.5 and 10.5 staggered set for winter with Blizzack LM 255/50R19's on the front and 275/45R19's on the back. I assume that a 18" square setup will just look hideous. Although a 255 Blizzack on all four corners might work a bit better in the snow. Thoughts? ![]() Last edited by churious; 09-04-2013 at 03:38 PM. |

You could always add spacers to the rears (with a square set up) to give it the staggered look without some of the associated cost.
and yes, the narrower a snow tire is, the better it works in deep snow.

You're better off with the square set up for winter. I have 19s - 255 all around. You're going to get a lot of responses that say you're fine with the staggered set and good snow tires but in my opinion, the rears are sleds. Your choice - looks or safety. I'd rather have smaller rears than have someone say how mean my wheels look while I'm wrapped around a pole.
Sitting back and waiting for the flaming from the youngins.... ![]()

To your point, I don't think I would call the look hideous, but spacers will likely be in order for me this winter. I added the fender flares to our 35d in March while still running 255/18 Blizzaks. You can see the fender gap from the flare to the outside of the tire. It's not great, but it's winter and not a lot of detailing. I have 223 M 19" wheels for summer so you can see the difference. I'll probably get 20mm spacers for the rear this fall before the Blizzaks go back on.

I have 19" 255 non-staggered setup with 25mm spacers for winter. This is what is looks like:

Here is my winter set up, 275/315-20" on the factory 20" wheels the tires are all season continental DWS that are surprisingly good in deep snow and on ice. The picture is on a frozen lake.
