Local dealership couldn't diagnose the problem ... said there were no codes. The battery was from Batteries Plus and load tested fine, but the guy replaced it for me anyways. Took it to an indy and found codes similar to yours and he said it was the alternator. Replaced the alternator and the problem went away.

Just had something similar happen to my e70.
While driving to work (25 miles each way) I got a "Increased battery discharge message" I did not think much of it, but on my way home systems started to fail, 4x4, traction, ear with exclamation in the middle. Eventually car refused to drive and stopped. Afterwards all light on dash would misbehave and flashed like a Christmas tree. I am charging the battery back up and see if the alternator went. Also, just like to original poster, I recently had a new battery installed (about 6 months ago) Let me know what you find out, I will do a write up if I have to tear into this thing. New alternator 700+ US$. |

1fastm3: did you figure out what issue you had with your sav?
Have you tried to remove the negative lead off of the battery and see if the car is still running? In my case it was the alternator. |

I've been having the same problems with my '09 E70, paid for diagnostics and eventually a new battery on second trip to dealership. Been happening almost once a week with new battery. Finally took to a different dealership and now am being told alternator was bad (covered under warranty).
Hopefully end of this story. |

If your X5 has been in an accident or bumped into something, The pyrotechnic device activates in the battery cable limiting current to prevent damage to the 60 plus computer modules in your vehicle. Usually the cable will feel loose in the socket when the charge has gone off. The symptom is, the car will run, with many warning lights.

As for battery:
- dealer cost is about 300 plus labor (someone correct me if I am wrong here) - indy, I paid 275 for battery and programming this could be a DIY if you have software Alternator: - for a 220A alternator (4 climate car) you need 820 for parts alone - this is a DIY ( a little difficult but manageable in 3 to 5 hrs easy) |
