You can you electrical contact cleaner. I have had a few mishaps and that will work to un-stick your buttons. It won't harm the electrical components.

I feel your pain. Happened to me a few months back. If you buy a new controller than you have to get it coded from dealer. I purchased a used I-drive controller from Weber Bros. 1-800-222-2528 x-100 ask for Craig. I paid $75 for the controller and plugged it in.... Worked like a charm with no coding needed.
