Damn it, SA quit

Had a good enough relationship with him to where fees got waived, things fixed under warranty, etc. Now I have to start smiling and joking around with another person that I don't know. Damn it.

Tell new guy to look at your history and treat you the same? If he offers resistance suggest there are other dealers in the sea?

If I didn't have bad luck with this truck, I'd have no luck at all. Came in, new SA threw me the coupon that my old SA used to for the oil change, so I'm happy with the $80 change. Then she comes over and I see Red on the report. Red is never good. Rear suspension air bags failed inspection and have a leak. I ask her the cost under CPO and she informs me that my CPO expired on 11/20 and there's nothing they can do to cover it. She is now looking for cheaper parts and manager agreed to give me a discount on the service, but I really REALLY don't want to dump another $900 into this vehicle.

I got both my rear Arnott bags for under 200. Install is easy.

Can you tell me the part number or point me to the thread? Sorry to bother, but I looked up the DIY thread, and replacing doesn't seem that ridiculously hard, but that person used the OE bags at $280 a piece, so for a couple hundred more, I'd have them do it, but if I can save $700, I'm all in.

Mine is an e53, looks like the e70 bags are more:

Thank you very much. I had the air bags on my mind as one of the last "common problems" that hadn't hit my X5 yet. I've been hit with every other, so I was mentally prepared for it at least. I stopped by my Indy on the drive home, and he highly recommended the Arnott bags over the OE part. Cheaper and better were his words. Once he calls me back with a quote, I'll decide whether to do it myself. He confirmed that its relatively easy.

It is super easy on the e53 & it looks easier on the e70.

Wait, your car was perfectly fine- took it in for an oil change- and somehow the airbags failed inspection without either a (1) dash warning, or (2) outward symptom?

Didnt know this was possible....

Funny you say that, because when she's telling me this, I'm looking at my X5 and it's just sitting fine, no droop, nothing.

So I look at the inspection report, and under Observation, it has Failed Task - Inspect rear suspension components - Found rear leaking air spring - Replace left rear air spring.

Then I look at the regular work invoice and it has -
78260 - Rear air bags need to be replaced, cracks that may cause a blow out.

So they obviously didn't find a leak, they found "cracks". I'm yet to find a piece of rubber that looks brand spanking new after 6 years of use, but it looks like this is just a good ole scare tactic.

That being said, it's such a common failure that I'm pretty sure that I'll need to replace them sooner than later.
