Have had 2003 X5 (5 sp man) for almost ten years. Put 100,000 plus miles on it. Bought 2013 in Feb 2017 with 20,000 mi on it.

Here is my take. Who needs auto closing doors!? and electronic parking brake?

I would rather have a brand new "2003" X5 than this 2013. I like the 2013, but there is a disconnect with it is compared to the 2003-one feels more connected to the road in the older car . The materials seem to be thinner, cheaper, lighter compared to the 2003............................

Really appreciated this thread. I am looking to replace my 01 E53, and was curious about the E70's.

I have owned a 2001 X5 4.4i Titanium Sport package 20" for 9 years
I driven it for 225k miles my repairs receipts = $12,385.26 post warranty (replaced every conceivable component on the engine plus front drive shafts, rear air suspension bags, timing chain guides, alternator, battery, tranny rebuilt,

I currently own a 2008 X5 4.8is Black/Black Sport package all options 20"
I driven it for 107k miles my repair receipts = $2,400.00 post warranty (replaced all gaskets, valley pan, both front wheel hubs, main seal, all hoses)

I love BMW just find a good BMW indy pro that you can trust... I found one in Long Island NY that are trained E70 BMW mechanics

Oh and don't forget getting yourself a Carly to do some custom programming......

I Jumped In and Crossed Over

I replaced the wife's trusty E53 this week. Went from a loaded '01 E53 to a not so loaded '13 E70. Youngest son claybarred and waxed it yesterday... OMG
BTW these things don't come with lug wrenches?

Or jacks, or spare tires... Welcome to the BMW run flat mentality..

Oh yeah, I started it thread years ago. We eventually sold our E53 at 230ish thousand miles after being rear ended and insurance paying it out as a total instead of fixing it. Got to say the last year of ownership was one fixit project after another, ales, wheel bearings, oil leaks, coolant leaks, rotted brake lines, etc..

We bought a '13 35d with Sports activity Package. Our old E53 had the staggered 19" wheels as well as summers. Love the look of these things on the steam roller tires (though practicality wise I'm not sure its the best).

Anyway, maybe its just that I always found the 2006 E53 3.0 to be under powered, but I can safely say I enjoy driving the '13 E70 35d considerably more than the E53 3.0i we owned for many years, and nearly 200K miles of driving..

I'm constantly concerned about the Diesel emissions system issues and other common issues, but I guess I will tackle them as they come..
