You must have more details on the recall than we have...what is the partnumber that needs replacing?

While on the forum where I first saw this there was a few other people that had this problem cast them an out of pocket repair, they also mentioned that contacting BMWNA and while a check wasn't cut right then and there, they are going through the process to get reimbursed. Nobody said they have cash in hand yet being its so soon, but at least there is a chance if you experienced the same failure, you have a chance,,, so be so kind and remember me at Christmas.

Good luck and keep us posted on how things go.

Its a common problem. There are 4 bolts for the vanos system that sheer off over time. All four of mine broke and damaged the exhaust valves in 3 cylinders. The bolts look like cheap pieces of plastic-metal type compound.

It was a nightmare and to fix because they have to rip apart the cover to find some pieces and fix the damage, then they have to take the oil pan off to find the rest of the pieces. I still have all the symptoms. Engine comes and goes as it pleases. Loss of power. Limited speeds. Won't start-just turns over. If you let it rest for 10 minutes, it will start again. Bla bla bla.

I miss the old bullet proof reliable beemers.

Based on the limited description in the posted link and the engine diagram I was thinking it was the vanos housing. In the USA, a mfg is required to reimburse you if you fix an issue that subsequently requires a recall.

Well let's just look at this a little more recall aside. I have the n55 motor and the 8 speed tranny, I know it,s not an M model, but I'd say I have a strong and worthy power train that's going to be good for years, but I am a DIY kind of guy also..

Just dropped my vehicle off at the dealer for a check engine light. Asked about this Vanos bolt recall, as noted earlier, probably too early still.

However, there was a recall noted on my paperwork to check the front driveshaft....I have read some posts where it comes apart while driving and its a complete mess...assuming it's related to that
