Air conditoning

Hello

I just tried to use my air conditioner in my 2008 bmw x5 and there is no cold air. I set the temperature to 16deg C and the vent setting to cold. Either press MAX, Auto or Manual does not help. Could it be low on Freon and do I have to do the full system charge (ie, evacuate, etc...)

What else can it be? Is it expensive to repair?

Thanks
Henry

Happened to me with our 08 last year about this time. Had a freon recharge and all was well.

Air cond

Can I recharge the gas by myself using the R134 gas refill kit at Walmart or do I have to flush the system at the dealership?

Thanks
Henry

Properly sealed A/C systems should never need a recharge. If the compressor is running then you'll first need to recharge THEN find the leak so you don't have to recharge every few months.

Couldn't find a leak on mine with the dye test. They said that there was one hose clamp they were able to tighten ever so slightly more, maybe that was it. I had it done at my local Indy for about $90.

could be your final stage resister which will cause the A/C not to work. do a search on it and you will find lots of info on it and its symptoms.

Agree.

Personally I would go to an AC shop (NOT a bmw shop) and have them check for leaks and recharge. If they cannot find a leak right away they SHOULD add a dye to the freon so that next time it runs down they will be able to use UV to find the leak.

It is possible for a failing component to destroy other components- so I recommend having it looked at and not doing the walmart special. and that from someone that DIYs everything...

I had my FSR replaced in the fall, is there a chance that it failed so quicly? My AC worked on Thursday and then Friday morning, nothing... seems odd it was so quick, is there a fuse in the front or back I can locate to check that? I looked in the back, the legend sucks... LOL

Thanks.

My AC stopped working too, it just blows hot air now. I don't think I'm going to bother doing a proper fix and will just pump some r134 in it because I'm going to sell it when this winter is over. The reliability of this car has been complete trash.

Which valve is the one you use to charge the system? If i recall, there are 2 stems that come off the AC system.

Thanks.
