I think you should all just delete the whole emissions system at the first sign of it having issues (if you are out of warranty). Either drill the DPF or replace with a downpipe and take that DEF out of the equation. It should be a lot less than 1000$ for the job. The diesel engine is a very good and tried one in Europe, and a diesel engine is way more appropriate for a big heavy SUV/SAV. Just my 2 cents. |

Unfortunately that will not pass annual State emission tests in the US

That's unethical, to say the least. I know, a foreign concept...

Typically, yes- no emissions in many states. Bribing inspectors is a thing of the past- in California they run stings for this. A guy has a shop and is clearing 100k a year.... he wants to take a crappy $100 bribe from a stranger? Some people will swap parts every two years for inspection, but that means it has to WORK when you reinstall it. |

It is very interesting to have been participated in two completely different social systems that share "some" moral values.

Well, here in CA emission test for diesel is total rip off.
You come in, they open a hood, check vin number, went for cup of coffee (maybe to keep you in for time needed ), come back, did some paper work, give you a bill for $70 and that's it. At least it's what happen to me. For gasser (for $15-20) they rally need to run tests and stuff. I don't see any issue, personally, to pass it with any modification you want. |

Agree. And the lobbyists for the BAR/emissions shops made sure to remove the 'new car exemption' that gassers got. Diesel owners have to get emissions tests from day one on new cars.... |

Let me refocus this thread. Anyone have experience dealing with a DEF tank replacement related to CEL codes 203/205 and can share their thoughts? |
