Broke Rear Axel Today

My observation so far: car was having the push/pull feel when coming to a stop.

I haven't seen (or clicked in threads with) mention of this.

Right now I feel a very slight but noticeable rougher downshift when coasting/coming to a stop on local roads. Is this similar to what you mean by push/pull feel?

I'm at 40k miles on a 6yo 3.0 that hasn't had any major maintenance done yet. Would spacers affect this issue too?

Reset your tranny adaptations. Do you even drive your car? 40k, I'd have more than that going for sunday icecream

^ I work from home full time. I wish I could drive it more. I make excuses to go out for lunch but the wife even cooks more for leftovers.

Road trip w/ 16 hrs of driving coming up though. Woohoo.

What I mean my push/pull was pulsation.

From driving over 40 or so miles/hr, I would remove my foot from gas pedal and weather I engaged breaks or not, as truck rolled to complete stop it would pulse in a similar pattern as if the rotors were warped. (no matter if I pressed breaks or not)

I can also say that the truck is tighter in the way it moves (quicker and with less lag).

Did I buy the diff used? No, I purchased a brand new unit from BMW. Originally listed for about 2.1k, local dealer advertised it for 1.8k, so my guys got it at lower price.

Diff types. You will have to look by part number. I believe there is a diff on ebay or locally in ATL for a 3.0 car. If that's what you need let me know. I do believe the price was about 1.3k (from what my mechanic told me). At that price I'd rather buy brand new with warranty.

Uhh the warranty: if this part fails again BMW will replace it for free and to include labor.

Hmm.

I have an '08 E70, and when rolling, (speed and RPM's dont matter), I get a random clicking sound that echos off of buildings on my passanger side. I also get a jerking motion/vibration when I turn my wheel fully to the left to turn. I brought it into the dealership, and they say its the front axel and that it needs to be changed and the Diff needs to be looked at to make sure its not damaged as well. ($1350 was the quote for the front axle)

I talked to a buddy of mine who used to be the shop foreman at this dealership and he sounded really amazed and questioned it because he said he NEVER had to change one of those axles out.

Any thoughts on this?

I dont believe any car manufacturer will warranty a part not installed by their authorized dealer.BMW and Mercedes for sure,but it may have been for electric/electronic parts only.

I had it installed by a BMW mechanic who in person was told that when purchasing the parts.

I would certainly have it looked at. You better paying it now then adding a cost of tow. The clicking noise almost sounds like a drive axle rather then the diff but..., check them both.

Glad you got it squared away gregg3gs, hope you don't have any other issues in the near future. I've been DDing my Corvette and letting the X5 sit until Sept when my Tesla comes.....
