Hi all,
I own a 2012 x5 35i sport activity with the OE bridgestone dueler h/p sport summer tires.... (please someone tell me why this 4 wheel drive car comes OE with summer tires?) Hit a huge pothole last week, left my car sitting for a week as I went on a trip, came back and saw this: ![]() ![]() How long can I use the car with the front passenger side tire in the condition above ^ I already was told by BMW over this past summer (say mid-August) that I needed to tires "soon" which is a crazy thought to me since the car was purchased CPO in the middle of May. I have had the car for less than 5 months and put less than 5000 miles on it... How is it possible I can already need new tires?? , Do I have a case for an argument here or no? Next question... Since the OE bridgestones are summer tires...and i am a NY resident heading into the winter months, I do not want to replace my tires with the same original equipment. I looked into possibly 2 different options, 1. The Continental ExtremeContact DWS (non RFT) 2. The Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport ALL SEASON Version (RFT) The Cons: ---Conti's have a LESS aggressive look because they are rounded at the sides making a "skinnier" appearance, and that is not something I want to give up unless the pros outweigh the cons. in this case, this is a huge con for me. (also having to buy a spare kit as well) ---The Dueler H/P Sport ALL SEASONS have TERRIBLE reviews even on the bridgestone website, The Pros: -----Conti's have much better ride quality after thorough research on forums -----Dueler All Season's still maintain the RFT aggressive look that the OE Summer Duelers have. Please help, as I have no idea what to do that will yield the best results. I would love a more comfortable ride, but don't want to give up the already extremely aggressive look on the X. I bought a sport activity because of this look specifically. Will the ride be more comfortable with the Dueler All Seasons than it is currently with the Summer Duelers? To sum up what I am trying to do. I want the most aggressive looking, yet "COMFORTABLE" tire that won't break the bank, and is all season...for this SUV. ALSO. Since my rear tires do not need to be replaced until come nov/december and I am only replacing them now due to the bubble and separation in the front passenger side tire...., can I save the extra $650 for now, and put the ALL SEASON duelers on the fronts, and wait to put the ALL SEASON duelers on the back until Nov/December rolls around? ---- (Result would be, NEW All Season Duelers in the front with OE Summer Duelers in the back, until replaced in december) If anybody has found any other options that I could do (possibly different brand or idea altogether), please let me know!! (Keep in mind I would love to split this payment up into two....with replacing the front tires now, and the rear tires come november-december) UPDATE::: now i am even more confused. Running a higher tire pressure reduces the risk of that type of tire damage.

I have the Contis on ours and wouldn't go back to RFTs if someone paid me. The ride is absolutely incredible (for a huge SUV on sport suspension and 20" wheels), and I wouldn't think twice about the look. I guarantee you won't notice a difference after the first couple of days. Besides, all anyone ever sees on my car is how friggin' wide the rear tires are anyway.
I wouldn't recommend mixing tires, but I guess if they're exactly the same make model than it wouldn't be different than when you rotate a non-staggered setup. Anyway, get the Conti DWS's. They're great.

Just a couple of points
#1 Don't mix tire MFG's and tread type. #2 Conti's have a LESS aggressive look? Maybe but Looks aren't everything and few people will notice. Besides the Conti's have an appealing tread design. I have em they look good to me. #3 You can argue all you want about the need for tires but if you need them you need them. Not much of an argument IMO. No need to risk safety. I remember the old day's going to wrecking yards to get tires to hold me over. Those days are over…. ![]() # Some will argue this minor point but i believe X5's are SAV's not SUV's

Michelin makes fine runflats.
Why do people assume that all runflats are horrible? Anyway...not many choices in that size, hence that is the reason BMW gives you summer tires. One big comment: GET THE CAR ALIGNED. Poor wear is an alignment issue. DO NOT assume BMW does it right or that they do it after a CPO (they dont) You want "MINIMUM TOE", like 0.01 to 0.02" per tire. Just going with what the dealer says will give you a sub optimal alignment- no matter which tire you buy Oh, get that rim measured for run out before they mount the new tire.... |

I just purchased a set of Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT Summer tires, it's always summer here, Front 285x35/21 & Rear 325x30/21, cost an arm & leg, problem is I have been advised of three different tire pressures. One on the door pillar, 32psi, one from Dunlop 35psi and one BMW 33psi. She is a 2008 4.8i SAV, anyone any tips, thank you

^ Yeah. Whatever pressure gives you the best handling or the best mileage- depending on what is important to you.
I find that higher pressure (2-4psi) will reduce edge wear (outside of fronts, inside of rears) Id do 35-36 front and (unless you routinely carry people and cargo inthe rear) 1-2ps less in the back See how the tires wear over time (measure tread dept across the tread at 3 points) and adjust accordingly |

Thanks' for the info on tire pressure, I'll stick to 35 F & 34 R, she's going in for a service TM so will get them to check the alignment on the TOE
