Why don't you ask the wife what she wants since she will be using the SUV most of the time. Women wants cars for different reason. They want soft ride, while we want grippy suspension. We want throaty exhaust while they want quietness. They want lighted vanity mirrors why we prefer multi valves fuel injection.

Ask her what she want, she may surprise you.

As stated previously by ATL Markus, the 2014 model passed this particular avoidance test so it's a non-issue. As for me, I love my somewhat temperamental 08 model X5 but if we're talking apples for apples then I'm going with the brand new shiny Jeep with its new car smell and all the advantages that go along with being the first owner...not least of which is the piece of mind that there are no hidden surprises and if you do happen to encounter a problem the dealer will jump on it like a randy rooster in a hen house to keep you happy. Just my 2 cents.

30-40% value loss in the first 2-3 years is a no surprise either
That $2k price advantage of the Jeep turns into $10 k disadvantage the moment the car is out of the showroom.$30k X5 could be resold on the next day with a minimal loss or even profit.Just saying......

The wife is undecided! She currently has a 2007 x3 m sport and loves it's. Almost at 100k miles so that's another factor. Ultimately, she just wants more room.

I owned a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and also own a 2012 BMW X5 diesel...the Jeep is gone...it was a very nice vehicle but there is no comparison .....the X5 is at a whole higher level in both quality , resale and fit and finish.

Made the switch last night! 2014 black Jeep Grand Cherokee summit. Wife loves it so its all good. Ended up purchasing a lifetime warrenty for 3k same as factory warrenty. It has a $100 deductible. Not bad! So now we have the one BMW in the family!

Congrats! Please make sure the latest recall (passenger airbag) has been performed. It was on the local news last night.

Ha crazy! Lifetime warrenty! I couldn't believe it also. They had a 6 year 80k mile warrenty for 2400 but then he mentioned the lifetime. Same as factory warrenty with a $100 deductable! Trust me, it's so worth it considering the whole jeep is a screen inside.
