If you don't want to see adapter and don't mind manipulating phone to start music then this

will fit in the console. Same functionality as above. It plugs into USB charger in console socket.
Bluetooth for music will deliver far inferior sound quality compared to a plug in cable.

This will only play music or other sound; all control must be from the phone.
The cable that I got says "phone accessory is not supported. It's not from Apple though. Which product is it? link?

Another "perk" of Apple's Walled Garden.

Maybe, but most of us are very skeptical of the claims of loss in quality.
Ever wonder why you don't see owners with factory A2DP lining up to buy aux cables? The convenience of wireless far outweighs the arguable quality loss.

Bimmer360.... can you connect another device to the AUX jack to confirm the input does indeed work?

My wife has iPhone 7 still and auxiliary works flawlessly.

Im willing to bet the quality of the ripped MP3s are a bigger issue with sound for most people. Some MP3s sound like garbage yet Pandora always sounds amazing.

As mentioned previously, I ordered a lead to connect up my iPod to my car that has no USB Aux, only the 3.5mm jack Aux input.
Today in the post, I received the lead and a double USB 12v socket adaptor. Very easy to connect up, and just to explain how easy...... I plugged the large connector into socket of the iPod Classic, the 3.5mm plug into the Aux socket under the armrest, and the USB into the adaptor and then plugged that into the 12v socket by the ash tray, turned on the car, selected Aux and away it went, clear sound, no noticeable distortions even when the volume has been cranked up...... well happy for only £5.99
Slight drawbacks are:
1. Can't control the iPod other than volume (though that will stop my daughters from skipping through "Dads tracks :-) ).
2. Lead is visible going from the arm rest to the 12v socket/cigar lighter socket (will have a think about how to solve that).
but overall very happy as I have my tunes back :-)

If your cable is not from apple I would be very careful. Non compliant cables can burn your phone up.

Yeah first time I have purchased aftermarket one and will not do it again. I don't see one from Apple site though.
