2008 3.0si front bull bar grille guard

I am looking to get a front bull bar (BMW calls it grille guard part #51100414619). I saw a couple on a popular auction website, and I like the bolt on installation. I notice that the BMW one requires removal of the front bumper and drilling holes in the plastic. Does anybody have any pics, suggestions, or experience that they can share with me before I decide which one to get. I definitely didn't like the bar that goes under the car, like a cheap pickup truck. I would also prefer black if possible...

Thank you

I had the bull bar on my X5 last year. I had mixed feelings about it, but decided just to take it off. It mounted onto the tow-hooks. Be careful with the auction sites, because the one I bought didn't fit correctly. It took a lot of elbow grease to get it to fit. It came chrome, but I just plasti-dipped it black and it worked pretty well. I'll post pictures soon

fitment

Why did you decide to take it off? Was the kind that you bought made by "Vanguard"? When you say it didn't fit, what did you do to make it fit? If yours is off, did you want to sell it? Thanks!

Hi,
I'm inclined to buy this stuff, can you please state where you purchased this and exactly what issues you had and why you took it off?

I purchased this on ebay, My only issue was that it took some force to make it fit, I needed use a dremmel to wide the holes for the bolts. Other then that, it was perfect... I suggest putting rubber stoppers between the bull bar and the front bumper so that you do not scratch the paint. I took it off because I wanted to change up the look again, and just got a European lisence plate.
