Did you have a Pre Purchase Inspection done?

I dont understand how people can agonize over a TV purchase at bestbuy for $899 yet a car for $20, 30k is just a leap of faith.

I asked a question up thread. Any response?

Thanks guys, brought it back to where I bought it from, a Ford dealership (1st mistake) they mentioned something about a ac controller and some other codes being thrown up. No word on why the horn still isn't working but they are sending it to a bmw dealer cause this is foreign to them. (My thoughts) since I bought it last Saturday hopefully they'll eat the cost of repairs. Crossing my fingers or we'll be on the search for another one. Ha! Thanks again for all the help and suggestions, I've tried everything y'all have mentioned. We keep asking for a pre inspection report or a UCI report but they can't seem to find it. Imagine that. Here's for starting out on the right foot.

1. Why would then do any kind of 'inspection"?? THis is a 100% honest question- WHY would they look any deeper than the paint to sell a car? There is NOTHING IN IT FOR THEM!

2. Why would they ever give it to you? All it does is prove they knew there were issues. Only an idiot would hand it to you.

3. Why would you want it now? See above. The only thing they would hand you is a perfect score, which would prove the car was fine until you took it!.......... the time to get it is BEFORE you buy the car.

4. An inspection from the selling party is asking the fox to watch your hen house.

First time dealing with buying a car?

Sorry I didn't directly respond to your first response ard.

But your last two responses I feel like are leaning towards the non helpful side and more towards the smart a** side. Comments like that deter others from even joining informational forums like this one.

I try to strike a balance between helpful and tough love.

Everything 'warm and fuzy, and gee shucks all the salesmen are here to help' will not really serve the reading public. and also may not serve you, unless you recognize the predicament you are in quickly

Understand that this isnt a Private Message just to you. There may be MANY readers- perhaps as you point out not joined yet- who are reading this, and might be well served by seeing someone be told "its your own fault for not being prepared and being too naive". they can then be better prepared buyers.

Sorry it is uncomfortable.

If you want to help yourself, the resources are here to do so. Personally, I dont ask a question that is not intended to provide help one way or the other. My comment about my question isnt just a peevish 'ard has asked' attitude... For sure, nobody needs to answer them- but typically at some point the "i'll just keep talking to salesmen, $hops and non-BMW dealers" phase will end, and you will be at the "guys they are screwing me, what should I do phase".... the key is to collect info early and document it so that **IF** you get to that latter stage you have a pot to piss in.

good luck

Like it or not, it's the absolute truth and a perfect metaphor.

Asking for a pre-purchase inspection from the used car dealer you're buying from, post purchase no less, is ludicrous.

I wish you luck but this could get expensive before it's fixed right. Maybe the dealer will help you out and maybe it's the "right" thing they should do but they really have no reason to if you stop and think about it.

I will echo the recommendation about checking the fresh air recirculation setting. It will make a difference in temperature and it's a simple "fix" for your lack of heat if that's all it is.
