Installing X5 seats into non-BMW. Power is not working.
So far I’ve been working on and testing only the passenger seat by running power & ground directly to the corresponding wires on the seat (red/green for power, Brown for ground). The seat is giving me no response whatsoever. I’ve also tested each of the motors separately by hooking them up to power and they all work. I’ve done quite a bit of reading on the topic, but can’t seem to find many resources on someone putting X5 seats in a different vehicle. I also can not find a wiring diagram for this model with heated + memory seats. I’ve read that in some cases K-Can might be needed (which I don’t have). I’m also considering the possibility that the ECU under the seat or the switches themselves could be dead. The person I bought the seats from insists they worked fine when he pulled them. Can anyone shed some light on whether there is anything else I can try here to get the seat to respond? Any advice is appreciated! Here are a few pics of the wiring Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Can't help with the issues you've raised...but can give you a link to BMW wiring schematics. Go the link below and select the correct model generation (if you don't have the VIN then select one of the "e70 X5" that is pre-facelift)...once you have a specific model, there's also a search box that you can use to type in key words or phrases that may help find what you're looking for: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/
For a specific example...I selected for an e70 X5 4.8is...then typed "seat module" into the search box and got the results you can see if you click this link: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...?q=seat+module TIP: if you open one of the wiring diagrams...take note that there are "clickable" links within the wiring schematic that will open up more details and information about the module, fuse, wiring connector, etc that is represented in the schematic.

Thanks a lot for the links, I'll dig in and check it all out, will update if I'm able to get it to work.

Trying to put them into a 3rd gen 4runner, since I can't get them to move though it's not working out too well!

afaik the seats do not need any bus connection unless you want to use the memory function.

Grrr...maybe I got ripped off and sold dud seats.
They've been sitting on my floor for a few months now. I can revisit them and see if maybe some internal circuit protection mechanism got tripped and has reset with time. Far fetched, but who knows. |

Your retrofitting BMW seats into a non-bmw and have confirmed the motors work. The problem is likely the fact that they need to be in a BMW! If worse comes to worst, why don't you just wire some switches directly to the motors?

I did confirm that the motors in the pass seat work by hot wiring them each individually, separately.
Both the pass seat & driver seat seem to be DOA - I'm guessing the switch module under the seat doesn't like just being hooked up to only + & -. Maybe it's missing some kind of ignition signal. In my research I've not read about this kind of issue with seats out of other BMW model numbers, so it seems odd it would only affect the X5. I thought about bypassing all of the switches and just hotwiring the motors. It seems I would only have partial movement, as the switches control movement in different planes that the motors themselves don't have terminals for. That must be part of the job of the module. |

You need to ditch the bmw seat modular and solder wires to your 4runer seat motors
