X6 50i new owner
I just pulled the trigger on a 2010 X6 50i. I am looking for any advise on what I should be looking for as preventive maintenance. I don't have the vehicle yet, it should be here within a week. Here are some picture of the new ride!

Congrats on the new ride, looks good. You are aware of the issues folks are having with the 5.0 V8 engine, right? First task is to get the VIN, stop by your dealer and see what services have been performed. There is a campaign right now on the 5.0 V8 to replace fuel injectors, ignition coils, inspect the timing chain and a few other things. Make sure you get that done ASAP if it hasn't been done already.

Chris,
Thanks for the advice. I was feeling a little disappointed about the X6 forum. There were over 107 viewers that saw my post and zero reply, until yours. In a way I am glad, this could mean that there isn’t a lot wrong with the X6’s. I am aware of the issues with the 5.0 V8 engine, but I am not sure what exactly is BMW doing about it. Are they fixing everything free of charge? I saw the lawsuit that one member initiated. I also logged in the BMW website, inputted the VIN number, to see if there were any recall my this car, and didn’t see any. I have an option to get a service contract for 3year/36000 miles for 3,500 from the dealer. Not sure if it is a good or bad deal.

Yes, they are fixing everything free of charge. Once you get the vehicle and get it registered and all squared away, I would make an appointment with your dealer and have the campaign performed. Its important to note this IS NOT a recall, its a 'customer care campaign'. The dealer will keep your X6 a day or two to have this performed.
At that time, you can also kindly ask the service advisor to see if he would be willing to do a 'warranty claim lookup' on your X6 and see what the prior owner had, if anything, for issues. This might help down the road. More information on the customer care campaign for the V8 is here. N63 Customer Care Package - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums The X6 forum is pretty quiet across all the BMW websites, the X5 is essentially the same vehicle with some minor differences, so many issues X5s have also apply to us. I scan the X5 forum a lot. Extended warranties are tough, because there are a LOT of exclusions in the contract depending upon who is underwriting it, especially for BMWs. Many members suggest going with a company called "Route 66". Check the X5 forum and do a search on Route 66. Enjoy your X6! I have a 2012 X6 with the 6cyl and its a nice machine. If you get bored, a few of us have upgraded to the LED headlights which came on the 2013/2014 models, which look sharp. Expensive retrofit but a fun project if you are handy with wiring. Chris |

Chris,
Thanks again for your advise and recommendation. I read about the LED headlights MOD, but that MOD is just to expensive for my pockets. My first MOD will be to replace the 19in non-staggered wheel that came with the vehicle. I have three sets of wheel style 132 for my X5. They are staggered and I am looking into finding a way to fit those to the X6. I am aware of the center bore differences between the two vehicles. I have a set of spacer for the X5 and I am looking into making the inner bore, the part that goes into the hub of the X6, 72.56 in the front and 74.1 for the rear. Never mind, I found this set form Tuner BMW; Turner BMW E39 20mm Wheel Hub Adapters - E36/E46 Wheels for E39 5-series - Turner Motorsport I hope these works!

The hub adapters should work - not exactly sure why BMW went with different hub sizes front/rear, its a hassle as the X6 is one of the few vehicles that has this scenario - I ended up going with OEM 20s, style 336.
Enjoy the ride ![]() Chris |

@ Pierce330,
Thanks. I did as much inspection as I could, but I am worry about the V8 engines issues. The dealer I bought the X6 from is not a BMW dealer so they couldn't tell me if the Customer car package was performed. @ Chris, Thanks. Those 336 are nice. I am glad that I am able to use the 3 sets that I have and they all have new tires. Joe

Hey Army,
Congrats on your X6. I must say of all the vehicles I have owned, by far the 2010 X6 50i was my favorite. She was a beast! I can't comment on long term ownership as I lease and only put 36K miles on her. The only problem I had was very early on, I kept throwing check engine light, which turned out to be a hole in the air intake boot. The part was on national backorder and they had to fabricate a part until it became available. Other than that, no issues. I truly enjoyed every single mile. Enjoy your ride. Laura

Hi Laura,
Thanks for your input. I read must of your threads, specially the one with your disappointment of the new 2016 X6's seats. I hope the X6M's are better. As I was looking into getting a used X6, one of the criteria's was comfort seats. Joe
