But I still turn my head when I change lanes. I've been known to put them on rental cars.

I think a week is a bit on the optimistic side. It gets better with time but I wasn't 100% comfortable for some time. Don't let it hold you back. Pick your colors and options. You're going to love it! I have zero regrets. It is by far the best ride I've ever had.

No head turning, unless I think I've been "fooled" by the mirrors...
I used to buy a couple dozen sets a year and carry a set with me on
biz trips, if I was renting a car, instead of riding with my local guy.

Pretty fookin weird, I was told.

For blind spots, the OEM (but expensive) way is to buy the European aspheric mirror glass. The whole mirror is convex, and the outer portion even more so. Given how big the X5/X6 mirrors are, it's not cheap especially if auto-dimming, but sometimes one can snag a deal on eBay.

OE BMW X5 E70 X6 E71 Mirror Glass Spiegelglas Spiegel bei eBay.de: Karosserieteile (endet 16.10.10 20:15:47 MESZ)

I've been driving with them for years on my X3 and the 325i, and gotten used to their wide range of view (eliminates the blind spot pretty much). No need to turn my head unless I want to make extra-sure in heavy traffic. When I swap into any other car, the difference is immediately obvious. I literally feel kind of blind when I drive with flat mirrors.

I don't find a problem with blind spots on the X6. I mainly drive a X5, and it isn't much different than the X6 besides the rear glass. I have my mirrors adjusted so they slightly overlap rearview mirror, that way I still have an idea of what I'm looking at. It isn't optimal as I haven't eliminated all my blind spots but a quick turn of the head for cars right next to my doors cures that blind spot.
