![]() ![]() but she gifted my kids teddy bears ![]() Anyway. I have never owned Porsche. so will welcome any advice for Cayenne vs X6. How do I deal a Cayenne? Thanks for any reference. Actually more interest in Hybrid model but I am not sure because it is not time proven. |

I went through this very exercise and ended up with a 2011 X6. In fact, I had a Cayenne Turbo on order and ended up changing my mind and going for the X6.
I think the new Porsche interior is gorgeous for sure; however, I would give the nod to BMW technology all day long. I really love the new iDrive as well as features like the side view cameras etc. I personally feel iDrive beats the PCM system hands down. Obviously a very personal preference I also could never fall in love with the new Cayenne's shape. I think it is has been softened too much, and quite frankly it looks like a number of Japanese SUVs from the rear. For me the X6 - while certainly controversial looking - makes a much bolder statement, is more aggressive, and frankly more unique. When I walk up to it, I get a smile on my face. Something that I never could do with the Porsche. I also feel that Porsche simply cannot compete with BMW in the bang for the $ department. For me it was not so much the high price tag of the Porsche, but rather the feeling that I was not getting what I was paying for. Simple things like charging $700+ to get the side view mirrors fully painted just left me feeling ripped off. At the end of the day I realized that the X6 50 had more than enough power for me, and honestly I enjoyed driving it more than I did the Porsche Cayenne - even the Turbo. Having said all of this, the Porsche is no doubt a great vehicle and you really cannot go wrong with it if it is the one calling out to you. Do however be aware that options will run up the price quickly, and they will depreciate equally quickly. Hope this helps

Same here. I haven't ordered the X6 yet, but I have been on the fence for months vs the new Cayenne. I currently own a 997 S cab and this is my 5th Porsche. I owned a Cayenne S when they first came out and I loved it, but like TheX5, feel you don't get your money's worth in options. The new Hybrid Cayenne is just that...new and not proven and I would stay away from it until the at least the first model year. Look at how many X6 hybrids are sitting on dealers lots!
TheX5 and I have had many conversations on another forum about the getting the Cayenne and an X5/X6. I am still on the fence. Porsche's are solidly built and if you plan on keeping it, you could really get up well over 100,000 miles with regular maintenance and not have too many worries. Given my BMW experiences, I can not say the same. But, I love the looks of the X6. it's very unique and I love the stance. The Cayenne is softened from the old model and there are so many look alikes out there, even a car lover like me has to do a double take on what it is! If you do deal on one, the going rate on the lot is about 6-7% off MSRP. But, that can change since Porsche's allotment to dealer is cut way back, so the dealings could get less off MSRP. Actually it was Newport beach Auto center (porsche). She was kind but unfortunately was not knowlegeable. I am not a lottery jackpot winner, definately 0.1M cash is not price for a candy. ![]() Very honestly I did not feel any big jump from my current SAV as I had felt from a cheap japan car to a 3 series and a 3 series to a X5. I think I need to do more research or go for a bike! ![]() |

Get the X6 or the CTT, the Cayenne S / the 6 cylinder Cayennes are def no gos....you answered your questions yourself in your 1st post....BMW performance in X6 5.0, the Cayenne / S def doesnt have that .....unless its the Turbo...but why spend a fiortune on the CTT when you can get the 5.0 X6 for much less?

It really depends on what you want. My mom's been wanting to get the new Cayenne S. She's never had a Porsche and has always had Mercedes and BMWs. She's just feels like it puts oneself in a higher group. She's all about status.
Not really going to argue on that point. As is known, Porsche do cost a lot more than comparably equipped BMW. And I've heard that maintaince and insurance cost more on the Porsche than a BMW. So if paying more constitutes reason for being in a "higher" status class. It does. But my argument to my mom is: (1) Do you really need all that status? BMW's are still considered a top name brand luxury car. It ain't no Toyota. Plus, with more status also comes it's own problems. (2) With BMW's you get so much more for what you pay. The technology is fantastic! My first choice would be the X6. I have a X5 just because we need more than 4 seats. My mom just can't accept the look of the X6, so she now has a pratically fully loaded X5 50i on order.

In terms of drive and performance, the cayenne s and the cayenne turbo are not so different. They have the same engine apart from the fact that the turbo has a turbocharger instead of a supercharger. The turbo's also come with higher spec as standard then the s, hence the price. IMO: The only cayenne that does not have enough power is the cayenne v6 or the diesel. I am not shore which one I would go for though... but since it's an BMW X forum, the X6

I tested the Cayenne and the Cayenne S back to back 3 weeks ago. I found the V6 had sufficient power, but with the 2011 chassis is a lot lighter and the car benefits from the additional weight of the V8. The V6 also has a family history of head gasket issues if you are not careful to get it up to operating temperature before opening up the throttle. My choice would be the Cayenne S.
