Just a sidebar comment... I thought BMW used the front wheel as the spare when staggered wheels were mounted and when they actually gave you 5 wheels of the same style. This was to prevent any tire scrubbing on the suspension or body parts since the rear set-up used wider tires/wheels. Perhaps this is not a problem on the e53...if its not, forgive me because I'm sill a relatively noob to things like this on the e53. I've owned one still less than 1 year.

Around the 2002/2003 model year is when I noticed BMW started using a less popular wheel as the spare (and smaller diameter, too) on many wheel pkgs/options.

I sold my front wheels. I am using rear wheels / tires at all corners. There is a donut in my hatch. It would serve well for local use. Having a ready spare is my plan for long road trips, etc where 315/35/20's are not easily found immediately off the interstate.

Does it have to be OE, or can it be aftermarket?
