Short DSP Cable Needed - CD Changer to amp **SOLVED**
But, to complete my install I need the short DSP cable that runs from the CD changer to the amp. My vehicle came without the changer so there is no cable to make the connection. My MID sees the unit, displays the song title etc. but no sound. Thanks!

make your own cable - get yourself a piece of RG-174 and two SMB connectors... i think SMB males... check to make sure that you need males...

Thanks Terminator - Didn't know I could buy those type of connectors. I've not seen them before I bought the X. Is that an off the shelf item at Radio Shack?

check the radio shack online - stores sometimes don't have a lot of items... if not at the radio shack, ask them about a store in your area that sells componenets... also, you need to be aware of crimping - some connectors require crimping, but some can be "screwed" onto the cable... or, check ebay, somebody might be selling the wire already... this should not be a showstopper, just a little stumble on the way...
worst case scenario, check digi-key.com, they sell a ton of components... |

Thanks again Terminator - I found a source online that will put the cable together for me. Cost about $20 so not too bad I guess.
Thanks again.

excellent!!!
Might as well put the name of the site in this thread, and when you get the cable to your satisfaction, edit the name of the thread to reflect - SOLVED - so the other folks in need of this type of cable can benefit from it. |

Most definitley will close it out when it's all completed. For now, I went ahead and bought the cable from www.BestPriceCables.com - came to $38 with free shipping for a 2' cable. After checking the plug and all the sites what I needed was what they call a SMB Male To Male cable.
The site I bought the Grom unit from - Performance MP3 was very helpful but they didn't have a solution for my problem. I'll bet there are others out there who have the same issue so I'm going to reach out to them to suggest they carry the cable. There has to be a market for these. Once i complete the install with the cable I'll close out the WTB listing and add more comments about the sound quality, ease of install etc. Thanks again Terminator for the assistance. You da man for sure!!!

Ended going to the dealer for a factory replacement. The part number is 61128386402. Cost about $40. The other supplier I found on ebay was slow to reply to emails and slow to ship.
Got the cable, plugged it in and now I have my Grom unit up and working with 12gb of music loaded on my travel drive.

Would love to hear a review of the GROM unit. Did you buy the unit that connects behind the radio or in the trunk? Does the unit you bought already have bluetooth or did you have to buy the dongle? Is the bluetooth only for streaming or can you make phone calls too? How difficult was the install?

The install was super easy. I bought the trunk mounted unit and the dsp converter. All you need to do is connect to the power and ground, then connect the converter to the existing 3-pin plug and connect your short dsp cable from the converter to the amp and you are in business. Maybe took 15 minutes at most. But I didn't have the cable to connect to the amp so had to wait a week or so. If you are going this route make sure you have the cable first. If not get it from your dealer or an online source.
My main interest was getting my music collection available in my car. I have a 12gb usb travel drive that I've loaded with a bunch of songs. I set up the 6 - files on the drive and copied my music over. The interface works great. You can see the artist, the album and the song display on your MID (if you can read it - need to get my pixels back). I haven't gone with BT yet - my commute isn't long and I'm not on the phone that much. My focus was the music. I do want to add XM at some point which I can do through the additional jacks on the device. I highly recommend the Grom unit. Buy it from performancemp3.com - they gave me a package price to buy the unit and the dsp adapter. Ordered it on a Wednesday, had it Friday afternoon and I live across the country from them. Great service for sure.
