Sony Ericsson w800i and BT/Assist TCU problems

I've got the 84106963798 (from 9/2005) BT/Assist TCU in my car. It was working fine with my Sony Ericsson T637. I just upgraded the phone to the new Sony Ericsson w800i. It pairs fine, the phone book transfers over no problem .... however whenever I make a call from the NAV screen (or the voice input system), the telephone audio always goes via the phone handset and not through the BMW BT/Assist system.

There is a option to manually force the audio to transfer to the BMW BT/Assist using the handset, once a call is in progress, however it doesn't seem to work - the phone seems to lock up if you try that !!

The odd thing is, if you make a call from the handset ... the audio fine and comes through the BMW BT/Assist system.

The phone is running s/w version: CXC1250316 R4CE012

Its very odd. I called up Sony Ericsson support and they said they would look into it, since my old T637 worked fine.

Anyone else tried the w800i with any of the BT/Assist TCUs yet .... ?

Cheers, Adrian

Try taking the sim card out and redoing it. I had the same problem. Sony Ericsson is useless. I wouldn't even bother with them.

When you use the car to dial the number I get the option to use car yes or no just leave it and it goes through that ! Do you get this ? I will make a call later and tell you what it says exactly! This is the best phone I have had and works perfect with the car, even to the point where you can use the phone memory and have 3 numbers under one name, and get text messages too. Although if you have assist texts dont work so I am told.

Thanks ... Yes I do get a message on the handset when a call is made using the BMW NAV monitor, however it always says "transfering to phone". My T637 would say "transfering to BMWxxxxxxxx"

I went through the various Bluetooth options, and under settings > connectivity > bluetooth > handsfree > incoming call you can direct sound to always use the handsfree BMW system. So incoming calls work great. Its just the outgoing calls.

This could be a compatibility problem with this specific TCU ... although its one of the later TCUs and its ashame if it doesn't work and this is a really nice handset !!

I did not touch the setting on my phone just paired it and off it went. Your car is newer than mine too so I cant see a reason why it dont work. I will try and check the setting on my phone and I will post what they are.

Thanks ... Do you have Assist in your car as well, or is it Bluetooth only?

You couldn't also check what software your handset is running could you?

You can find that under Settings > general tab > update service > Software version.

Cheers, Adrian

No I dont have assist just have comms pack with bluetooth and TV. I also think that you must have different software as I dont have software update in my menus. I will have a look at S.E web site to see if there is another way of getting this info for you.

When you get in the car do does it connect ok I get BMW11152 come up and like a headset more like a square on it's side but if you look closely can see its a headset.

Yes it connects fine ... although I notice the phone profile doesn't change to incar or handsfree. I have manually changed the profile prior to getting into the car, and even added a number of accessories to those profiles, however still no audio through the BMW system.

I think there is some conflict of the bluetooth handshaking between the phone and the BMW Assist/BT TCU thats causing this problem. If BMW add this phone to the list of supported phones, its possible through a handset s/w phone upgrade this issue could be resolved ... but how long that will take is anyones guess !!
