Fix for pairing button NOT working in X5. Also easy way to add BT to X5 pre 03/01

In the X5, IF your car was built AFTER 04/02 AND you had the dealer install the CPT8000 phone system in your car, and now you want to install Bluetooth there is an easy solution for fixing the issue of the pairing button not working with the standard BMW ULF module.

If your X5 was built after 04/02 your car was equipped with the Universal II phone harness connection and in order to "roll back" the wiring to the older phone systems BMW had two wiring adapters one in the back and one in the center console. Most of the time you see the short adapter harness UNDER the eject box, although I have recently run into a few instances where these were in another location, under the center console. The P/N we are discussing is the 61 12 0 145 778 (18 pin eject box adapter)

I have seen quite a few center console removal instructions that look very complicated, so I set out to find a very good and simple process.

1) Move the drivers seat all the way back

2) Lift up on the e brake boot. I lifted from the top of the leather and it came up

3) Look down the area that is revealed with the e- brake boot out of the way – no need to fully disconnect it –

and locate the 4 connectors that hold the side panel in place. See below for location of 4 connectors

Press from the inside away from the center console towards the outside and the connectors will release the panel

4) Look at the bottom front of the area revealed by the removed panel for a black 18 pin connector. There you will find a short 18 pin to 18 pin adapter. Remove this adapter and reconnect the original 18 pin connectors back together.

Once this adapter is removed your Wiring in the center console will be back to it's original form. Replacement is opposite of removal

The cool part about this new info is now you can locate the pairing button up on the center console somewhere instead of in the trunk on cars built before 03/01 OR you can also now possibly run the wires easier for the eject box installation
