Good luck with the 700p I bought the 700w in January and its the most expensive paper weight I have ever bought. The reception for the phone and web stinks (I live in the burbs of Philly). I have been too busy to take it back although I plan on getting in there soon to try to exchange it considering I drop calls like no tomorrow. I hope you have better luck with the 700p. I have heard that the p got better reviews tan the w.

I'm getting the 700p tomorrow, I think

We use Microsoft Exchange for Calendar and email and you have to run a Wireless Sync client on a computer that must always be on and logged in (kind of a PITA) but if you do that it works like a charm - pushes email and new calendar items to your phone in (more or less) real time. Broadband access works well too - noticeably faster than my current Moto E815. Only remaining question was how well it would work with the X's bluetooth connection. Sounds like it works just fine - so I'm off to Verizon tomorrow. ![]() Wifey's gonna get the E815 - which she'll probably hate

So far it connected within 2 minutes. The time it took me to turn bluetooth on and type in the password. Downloaded Tele#s very quickly as well. More later

Hey, thanks for the update. That is good to know. I am going to upgrade my Verizon Treo 650 to the 700p.
The funny thing, I have the bluetooth ULF-522 and my Verizon Treo 650 with firmware 1.04 (which came out in October 2005), pairs fine and even transfer the speed dial list to the X5's bluetooth. Remember, I have a 2001 and got the Bluetooth retrofit kit from Martin's Bimmernav and my Verizon Treo 650 still paired. Also the VZW Treo 650 pairs with my M3 fine as well. I need the Treo 700p not really for the EV-DO (which is nice), but more for the memory.....22mb of main memory RAM is not enough....The 60MB of main memory RAM is great!! Congrats on getting the Treo 700p. At least I can get a $100 rebate since I am eligible for an upgrade! Quote:

Surfed the web with it for a bit. Pretty fast sitting on my sofa. Even went into X5world and read a few post. Gotta learn how to get my E-mail next.

I'm still on the bubble. I want EVDO, but I don't want to spend $15 for Sprint Vision plus another $40 for the unlimited data plan for using the phone as a modem. Plus I'll lose a lot of plan extras that Sprint will not grandfather into my new contract. Unlike the Treo650, the Treo700p EVDO has DUN monitoring, so Sprint can identify its use as a modem.
However, the PPV6700 is EVDO enabled, doesn't have DUN monitoring (which allows for unlimited modem usage) and has been rebated down to $199.00. The only issue is my lack of familiarity with WM5 and not knowing if the phone is VPN capable. I think I'll head over to the Sprint store over the weekend to play with the phones. |

I gotta be honest with you. I don't know a lot about PDA's aside from researching the differences in the OS's (windows vs palm). I have used Palm exclusively so that influenced my decision for sure. After that it came down to Sprint or Verizon because the 700P for cingular may be down the road a bit. Some one I know who's a gadget guru did say that of the 2 Verizon has the better coverage and that was important because after all the 700P is a phone and the rest of it's operation depends on coverage as well. The cost seems to be about the same for both carriers with Sprint having less minutes in their basic plan but making up the cost for Sprint Vision. Lastly using the Treo as a modem didn't ring a bell with me maybe because I don't have a laptop.

Sprint just signed a long term agreement with Alltel to share their towers (maybe a precursor to a merge). The service map is going to change really quickly and they might catch up to Verizon's coverage.

If the 700P had been released by Nextel I would bought it in a heartbeat. It no doubt would have had direct connect. What a combination. A Treo with world wide direct connect. WOW what a piece of gear that would be. Sprint? Hmmmmm
