The manual that came with the car is describing the snap in adapters in the center console and a pairing button in the center console - both of which I do not have. The only buttons I have are on the steering wheel and nav panel. It looks like the manual was written for a specific configuration and they have no instructions for the config that came with my car. It's a stock system, not after market.

thanks

David,

Before your friend gets in the car, follow the instructions I mentioned above to keep his phone from pairing to your X. Do the same thing with all the other phones you don't want paired.

I can see pages 6-9 just fine. Anyway here are additional links. http://www.xoutpost.com/bluetooth.php. But follow x5GuyInLA's instructions and see if that will work. I do remember though that the actual instructions for pairing are on a card which was included with the manual my X.

In MY 2005 and 2006 US cars that came with BMW Assist with Bluetooth there is no pairing button as indicated in the manual unless you had the cradle fitted. Therefore, it is not possible to delete all the phones that have being paired with the TCU using the technique described in the manual without a cradle.

In any case, not all is lost. The TCU can be used with upto 4 phones, however obviously only one phone can be paired with the TCU at any one time.

On pairing a 5th handset, the first handset paired with the TCU will be deleted. Pairing a 6th handset will remove the 2nd ... and so on.

Deleting the profile in the handset will not delete the information stored in the TCU.

If you dont have a infinite supply of handsets ... ;-) ... the only other way to delete the information stored in the TCU is ask the dealer to re-code it.

Hope this helps, Cheers, Adrian

Thanks for the info. It's just been frustrating to try to figure this out since the manual doesn't reflect what is in the vehicle (not having a pairing button). Do you know if there is a way to make the display indicate whether a number is home, office, cell, etc? I have 3 or 4 numbers for each of my contacts but the display in the car just shows the same name multiple times and I can't tell which number is which.

This is somewhat dependent on handsets I'm afraid. In all cases though, the phone book presented on the Nav display will list multiple names regardless if you have the same name with different numbers for Home, Work, Mobile, etc. Only when you actually select the name to call will it distinguish itself with a {H} {W} or {M} after the name at the top of the screen.

Also using the R/T and up/down arrow buttons on the steering wheel will show the name using the Home, Work or Mobile indicator above.

If your display shows {?}, this means your handset does not support this feature of the bluetooth profile. I know Sony Ericsson handsets tend to support this, but most Motorola handsets I've tried, don't.

Cheers, Adrian
