Has anyone had any luck with non-approved Verizon phones?

I have a Verizon XV6700 PDA/phone. It has BT, but is not on the approved BMW/Verizon list. I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck getting BT phones which are not on the compatibility list to work with BMW BT.

Thumbs up

Thanks, Martin. Got the 12th Gen ULF installed and working. I have one small problem, though. The XV6700 won't automatically pair. I have to go into the BT settings every time and tell it to pair. I see no settings to make it automatically pair. You said you use the XV6700, too. How did you get it to auto-pair?

The jetware was really messing things up. Before I installed it I could see my contacts fine on the dash, but after installing it kept saying Phonebook Empty. I uninstalled jetware and it reads the phonebook fine again.

Lots of static, though. And when it first starts to dial, there's a loud click, almost metal-on-metal like. Weird.

I live in a non-EVDO area, so with the XV6700, the 1xRtt data uses the same protocol as voice, so *every* call fails the first time you dial it. You always have to dial twice. That's also causing a problem, especially with voice commands. When I try using voice dial, it tries to dial and then dies, just as when I use the phone directly. And by the time I try it a second time, the data stream has picked up again and the second try at the call fails as well. This is Verizon's problem, though, and nothing to do with the BT. Accordingly, I'm considering going back to having a dedicated car phone and just forwarding my 6700 when I'm in the car. Which Verizon phone would you recommend, considering I'd like to have it cradled all the time?

I've gotten the treo 700p to pair with the BMW BT, although there are a couple of bugs. First, when receiving a call, the number that shows up on the Nav screen and the MID is the last number that called, not the current caller. Also, if you pair with the BT, turn off BT on the phone, then turn it back on, you have to do a soft reset with the phone, otherwise, the call will go through the phone instead of the BT system, even though it pairs back up. Aside from that, it pairs OK.

I'm also finding that the voice command function is weak. It can't seee to distinguish between one entry and another. I created an entry called "home" and thereafter no matter what I said, it replied with "home" and then told me there was already an entry called "home." My E38's voice command could distinguish between very similar entries like Sarah Office and Sarah Cell. I'm wondering if there's a problem with the mike that makes it hard for the voice command to hear me clearly.

Now everything appears to be working as designed. The phone pairs right up as soon as I get in the car. The sound is poor on both ends, though. People I'm speaking with sound like they're speaking through a blown speaker even though I know my speakers are fine. And they all say I sound like I'm in a big, empty tank. Much of that is probably due to the XV6700, which I've found to be a great PDA but a lousy phone.

I found this neat little app called CicleBT which allows you to turn your BT on or off at the press of a button or a tap on the screen (for PDA phones). I was worried about battery life and security with having my BT on all the time. Now it's just a quick button press to turn it on or off.

Just FYI, I finally gave up on the XV6700. I just couldn't get the outgoing volume up. Everyone I talked to on it said they could barely hear me. Martin at Bimmernav even swapped out microphones for me. It didn't help. So I grabbed a Razr with the New Every 2 plan and it works much better. Loud and clear on both ends. And I actually like the Razr. It's so small and light compared to the XV6700. I'll keep the XV6700 as a PDA, but the Razr is my new phone.
