Thanx Ucrew, but unfortunately it looks like the phone can see the car instantly but the X5 doesnt see anything, all I get when I press the phone button on the radio unit is the question ' phone connected ? '.
Looks like I am out of luck.

Those instructions are not correct. The vehicle never asks for a bluetooth passkey on I-Bus equipped cars with BMW assist with integrated bluetooth.
If you press the R/T button you should see "Activate Phone" on the screen. Thats your prompt to search for bluetooth devices on your phone and pair with BMWXXXXX using the supplied Bluetooth passkey. This is all done via the phone. You dont need to do anything on your headunit/NAV screen. Once the phone is paired you should see a message to say the phonebook is downloading. This normally takes a few moments depending on how big your phone book is. In some cases, with certain handsets, special numbers such as +, p, can cause problems ... its sort of luck of the draw ! Also you may need to turn the ignition off and back on again after the phone paired with the car for the very first time. Having said all of this, the pairing process maybe different for European equipped cars. Hope this helps. |

I was hoping that would work because my car is a US vehicle from California, I imported it to the UK last year when I returned home from living in the states for a while.
I have an 09/04 build date and guess that I have the integrated Assist/Bluetooth module so do I need anything else to make it work , I have read about a VR module or an SES jumper, what are they and do I need one to use the bluetooth in my car.My LG chocolate is a tri-band phone so I was hoping that it would work but I am getting no where with it. Is it possible that because my Assist is not active now that I have lost the bluetooth capability. Any help gratefully appreciated, Thanx

Post the part # of your BT/Assist module and we will be able to determine exactly what you have.
Certainly with the initial batch of BT/Assist modules, VR was not included within the module. However by March/April of the following year ('05) the modules were including VR. The symptoms of not having a SES connector is that everything will work fine, however you can hear the caller, but they can't hear you. Thats when you know the SES jumper plug is not installed ! Its possible that the dealer simply needs to recode the entire BT/Assist module regardless of you having Assist active or not. Another cheaper option might be, to try someone elses phone that is on the approved BMW BT compatibility list. |
