Well I spoke with Nokia Care Centre this morning and they tell me that the latest version number is 3.78

I'll be going in today to update it and will advise.

Wish us luck!

Jack

Not good news. Phone has been updated to 3.78 and still the same. So now I can only wait for a further update to the firmware or check with BMW dealer if they have a vehicle with the 7th generation ULF and try it.

Then get them to change the ULF for me.

Any more ideas guys!

The firmware version on my 8800 is 3.28 which is dated 26-05-05.
How do I confirm what kind of ULF that I have on my X5?

Hoon,

Check the ULF itself. It is located in the rear left hand side panel. The model number will be on the ULF itself together with your passkey.

This article tells you the generation of the ULF. I'm expecting it wll be the 7th generation.

Let us know how you go.

Thanks,

Jack

Wow,

That's not even on the list!

I guess I have to speak to the guru at BMW and ask him what the story is with this ULF when I go in for my service next week.

I'll keep you all posted.

Now thats really wierd.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...84&fg=10&hl=12

What the hell is this then ?

None of these part numbers match a know list of ULF and TBH the picture of the TCU looks different then a ULF.

Any thoughts ?

Hoon, any chance of a picture of your TCU ?

Si

Oops, Worked it out now.

This module that Hoon has appears to be a 4th Gen Motorola Combo Assist/Bluetooth Module given the numbering from the link in my previous post and http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-171.html

So my question to my American friends is what is the difference between a ULF and a Motorola Combo Assist/Bluetooth Module ?

Well today I spoke with one of the guys at BMW Sydney and he tells me that they have only ever been able to get the phone to pair and connect to the bluetooth. No phone book or sms can be read. This was done on a 3 series and he tells me that the 3 series and the x5 are the same module. I'm going in on Friday for a service and will be testing the phone with him on a newer ULF as well. I'll let you guys know the outcome.

Regards,

Jack

Well today I had the X5 serviced and had a very lenghty discussion with the service tech at the dealership. The information provided to me by the technician is that the ULF is Bluetooth 1.1 compatible and the 8800 is Bluetooth 1.2

BMW only support phones with Bluetooth 1.1 and that is it. Now I am not sure if Bluetooth 1.2 is backward compatible with 1.1 . The only way around this problem at the moment is to have a second phone in the car that has a cradle and has all calls diverted to it. I will also need a second SIM card. I would have to switch my 8800 off before entering the car. This is about all I can do until either BMW make the ULF 1.2 compatible or Nokia update the phone to make it 1.1 compatible as well.

Make sense!

Any more ideas are very welcome.

Regards,

Jack
