Replaced front speakers on wife's vert, no BT audio...HELP

I was warned..

My buddy who is a BMW mechanic warned me that the door speakers on my wife's 04 325Ci vert were DUAL-COIL, ie both the HU audio AND bluetooth audio signals were connected and came through. I didn't listen. Had a nice audio upgrade done for the front doors MB Quart component speakers and an ARC mini amp, and now of course, the bluetooth connects and finds the phonebook, mic works, but no audio..

Anyone else been in a similar situation..?

I understand it's possible to just ADD a small speaker to get the BT audio, but don't know much more than what I was about to find via search.

Thanks

Your soloution may well require some custom wiring.

On the early cars (pre 2002 ish) the front speakers are indeed dual coil, and that is why your BT audio does not work.

You have the option of adding a small speaker in the panel above the driver's knee, next to the gong, then wiring it in to the TELNF signals.

Also you can get a later NG radio post 09 2002 and add the TELNF pins in to the sockets on the back. You will also need an updated FM amp (eBay) and possible a 17 pin to 40 pin adaptor.

EDIT: I saw in your post on E46 fanatics that the car is a 2004. This means you may not need to buy much in the way of radios, amps and adaptors, you just need to wire the TELNF signals into the empty pins on the stereo.

Post some pictures of the back of the stereo, and have a look in the 12 or 10 pin connectors for two black/white and black/brown wires in a twisted pair on pins 6 and 7 of X18805 or 3 & 8 on X13321.

Bob:
Thanks for the in depth reply.

So you are saying that the speakers that were removed were NOT dual coil, and that instead, some wiring got "damaged/broken/etc" in the install of the new speakers..?

I should mention that I had (and still have) a BSW sub with a Rockford amp that WAS working with the old phone and ULF.

It's a "mission" for me to pull out the radio and take photos, so if there is a way to avoid that, that would be good. It's a stock BMW Business HU if that means anything.

Given that I am really to trying to provide my installer with some insights, is there anything that could be done SIMPLY to add the speaker as you described..? My buddy that helped with the TCU install, seemed to think (although we did not remove the door panels) that it might be possible to pick up the signal from the door harness, and simply install a speaker by the gong as you mentioned... Things that don't sound simple to me..

Lastly, given your obvious expertise, is there a likely suspect that my installer may have inadvertently corrupted given the description of the brand / location of the speakers we replaced (mid bass with a crossover to the original tweeters).

Many thanks...

ed

Absolutely not.

Although it is a surprise that your 2004 car has dual core speakers.

This. The wires are Black/White and Black/Brown and I think the speaker part number is 84640147543 but I can't find a picture of it to be sure.

Thank you again.. Like I mentioned the guy that helped me (by the way it MIGHT be because it's a convertible) assured me that they were dual core. He could be wrong, but he does work for a BMW dealership and has for many years.

K.. Would the wires be coming from the HU, the TCU or somewhere else..?

From the TCU, to both front speakers. Again assuming the 2004 car is wired up as a pre 2002 here.

It really is unusual, and the only way to be sure is to start taking things apart and looking.

Curious that it stopped working in the first place, but confirms the car is wired as a post 09/2002 which is more understandable.
