Exclamation Another Aux Input Questions - Please HELP

Hey gang,

I posted this elsewhere and got nowhere... Maybe you guys might have some input (no pun intended )

I installed my aux input today. However, I lost voice instructions from my NAV (the British lady), and I have no sound when I use my phone (Bluetooth). I followed someones instructions about removing the old 12-pin connector from the radio harness, and putting in the new aux input 12-pin connector into the harness. The old 12-pin that I removed had 4 wires going into it (yellow, yellow/black, yellow/brown, and yellow/red). I'm guessing those are for my Bluetooth and the NAV's voice instructions. Does someone have intructions on how to install Aux input with NAV and BT? Do I have to put the aux input wires into the existing 12-pin?

Also, the kit that I bought from my dealer (hate them) came with instructions for an X5 and 3-series. Maybe if someone has a copy of the X3 instructions, that would help!

Thanks for reading!

I replied to you on roadfly, but I will try again here...

I did my aux input install yesterday on my 05 X3 with nav and dsp. Did yours come with installation instructions?

What concerns me about giving advice is that my black 12 pin connector only had two wires going into it and yours had four...

Moving-on from that, did you put the wires from the aux input into the existing 12-pin harness, or did you switch the entire harness leaving the old one unplugged? That would be the first place to start.

Thanks for your replies. I've been busy lately and this is the first place I checked.

My Aux input came with instruction for an X5 and 3-series (but same part number).

I'm guessing the 2 wires you have are for the voice directions that come out of the NAV. Then I would guess that the extra 2 wires I have are connected someway to my Bluetooth (Do you have BT?) I say this because I lost BT sound and Voice sounds from my NAV unit. Which means yes, I did just plug in the 12-pin connector from the AUX input and the old 12-pin is just unplugged.

Maybe I need to put the wires from the aux input into the existing 12-pin harness, but I don't know what goes where.

Thanks again for anymore advice.

OK... I will do my best on this...

The wires into the aux adapter harness have a little tab on the top that you have to push down. While pressing down on those, pull the wire (carefully) out of the harness.

Looking at the factory harness from the side where the wires enter, one side has an arrow on it (that should be pointing to the left) and a notch sticking up.

You should see two rows of 6 slots. Treating the top left slot as #1 for our discussion and the top right as #6, the bottom left as #7 and bottom right at #12...

The factory wires go into #6 and #12.

Your aux cables plug into the factory harness as follows:

If there is a yellow one (or it might be white/red like mine was) that goes into slot #3. The white/blue or gray goes into slot #4. The white/brown goes into slot #10.

If that is too confusing, let me know and I can try to e-mail the wiring diagram to you.

FWIW, I have bluetooth and nav and dsp just like you, but only have 2 wires into the back of my factory harness... who knows...

Good luck!

I'm going to try this when I get home tonight from work, thanks a lot for the tips.

As far as those 2 extra wires... I'm still trying to figure them out. What year is your X3?

My car is an 05.

May I suggest making note of the wire positions before you take the aux adapter harness apart?

Sorry... I forgot one thing...

TO get access to the holes in the plug, in order to pull the wires from the harness, you need to first slide the plastic cover off the plug.

To do so, look at the sides. Find one side that has a small tab. Push that tab up and slide the connector sideways out of the plastic cover.

Sorry about that!

White05X3 (Randall?), I just wanted to say thanks for all of your help. I installed my AUX input (ran it under everything and into my center console). Everything works now, including my BT and NAV voice instructions. Your tips were perfect. I had a little trouble getting the brown wire out of the AUX harness, but with a little work and a swiss army knife, it came out. I put the wires where you said into the existing 12-pin harness and all is well. My sound quality is fine and I'm happy. Sure I would like to keep the iceLink, but it wasn't working well with my Sirius unit. I don't have the ID tags on my NAV screen, but working everything through my iPod is just fine.

Thanks again!!
