Sirius sound quality sucks on my X5 DSP

I used to have the same Sirius thru FM transmitter and the sound was not too bad on my Audi TT i had before. Iwonder if the Bose system had on my TT makes a difference. Anyway I just installed it on my X last week and the sound SUCKS !! not interference wise no problems there, but honestly sounds like a tape player ... Is there a lot of difference in sound if i get one those Sirius BMW offfers? is it a digital sound? Is it CD sound quality? Any ideas or suggestions? I have a 2002 DSP and Nav. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you have, but FMModulators usually suck pretty bad.

The BMW kit sounds better than the FM mod. Probably not CD quality, but as good as Sirius can sound (Sirius and XM are NOT CD quality...)

Did you try adjusting your DSP settings to those recommended in this article? http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-74.html

I would also think that you would have much much better sound quality if you used either the AUX input or the OEM Sirius kit instead of an FM transmitter.

It's an option. Searching here will help you learn about ways to do this without going through the dealer. Also go to logjamelectronics.com, click on Auxiliary interfaces on the left, then on BMW.

I agree, but for now i will stick to my lovely CD changer.. :p I would rather invest the money to add the bt module to my X5. Its like $650 something like that...

Just bought a used 05 X5 4.4 with NAV & DSP. Had the OEM Sirius receiver installed with antenna in the rear spoiler.

I used the DSP settings on this forum and actually tweaked them to sound better on CDs.

Drove 6 hours from LA to SF and switched between Sirius and CD changer. The Sirius sounds is aweful. Muddy, no brightness or crispness to it.

I can't believe it is that night and day between CDs. Am I missing something?

So bummed if this is the case after dropping hundreds on the Sirius install. :{

One other question for everyone, how does the sound quality differ between Sirius and the iPod with Icelink?
