Combox replacement
I did a bit of research, and believe the combox needs to be replaced, so I purchased a used (working) combox from eBay, but before I attempt to fit it, I have a few questions; The Combox (Telematics P/N 9257151) was removed from a 2013 BMW 1 series - it's the same P/No, and the seller assured me it is a cross-fit, so should function. I believe that although the unit is coded to a different car, the functionality should be fine, but it won't work with BMW Assist - I'm not worried about that, it's not something I need.... so, it shouldn't need re-coding. BUT, I have also read that there could be possible issues - USB might not work, the Combox could be 'constantly powered up' (the Network stays awake) which could drain the battery or set the alarm off, and finally, that the replacement Combox might need to be exactly from the same year as my car. Any advice would be gratefully received! |

Hi Tony,
This is an old thread but I was interested to know how it all worked out for you? Did you recode the module? I am chasing a MOST failure now (SOS error , No Audio, No bluetooth) and I believe it is my TCU 1.5 that has failed. Used modules are $25-80, I assume I will need to code them with my Vin but I haven't the tools to do this yet. Im pretty sure its not so difficult to setup DCAN + WinKPF or Bimmerkeeps protocol. Im also sure I can find a local person to code it for a reasonable fee. (Northern Va). I am comfortable with diag tool but Im fearful of bricking my car with an incorrect coding tool. I also don't have a battery stabilizer. Is there a low cost battery stabilizer out there? |

Hi there, well, in the end, it turned out that a simple software upgrade did the trick - happened by chance, I took the car in to BMW for routine maintenance, and while it was there, they did a full software update, and my phone was able to fully interface with the car!
