Im not trying to complain or whine about spending the $250 on install, el_duderino. I am just trying to failrly justify it to myself that $250 is not a high price to do something that I have done before (on other vehicles that were obviously not as expensive). Its just a see-saw situation, and Im trying to build enough weight to head the the installer and not to my tool bench... I honestly prefer not to have to stress over the installation, knowing that if they break something, they will have to replace it and not me...
And i do have the rear sunshades.... (I wish i had front one's too )

I am an installer and i think 250 to swap all door speakers is a bargain for you if its done properly and the door doesn't rattle afterwards.

Just a quick note - our experience has been that we have fewer issues with customers doing these installs themselves than installers. Why? Customers read directions, installers do not. By and large, the car audio industry is full of idiots in bays with a few exceptions per city like el duderino (who knows his stuff). Because these people have preconceived notions about how to do things that are often totally wrong, they don't read our instructions and then screw things up.
So, if you're on the fence, unless you are SURE of the quality of the installation facility you are going to, do it yourself.

Does anyone know of a company in the Southern California area that does speaker upgrades for the X5?

Thanks everyone! Speakers arrived today. Instructions look very good. I'll be installing them on Saturday. I'll post the results.
