X5 and Archos av400????

I want to connect my archos av 420 to the rear panel of my x5 (where there are two AV jacks "in" and "out" but when I do it nothing happens...sometimes I hear a the sound but only for a few seconds and then the word "mute" appears on the display.
Is there a special cable for the rear av jack of the car?
The same thing happens if I try to listen to the music from my ipod.

Please help me

Thanks to all

HI Spiffy

This has been discussed before. The problem is that the input is AV i.e. Audio and video. If there is no video signal it blanks the screen and mutes the audio to avoid damage. If you pull the jack out slightly it puts a bit of signal to the video and sometimes works but the screen is all the time trying to sync. I did get it working using a proper AV lead (left right video and ground) but again you have to put a signal on the video channel. There also seemed to be problems with some AV leads and you had to fiddle about with them.

Hope this helps to explain but unfortunately does not work. You have to get an AUX in.

I had the exact same problem.

I have an Archos AV380 and I couldn't make it work even with a correct 3 lead AV minijack cable into the "AV In" input in the rear console.

Video was dropping in and out, and the TV-module then mutes the audio.

I had a carstereo installer have a look at it,
and he found out that the Archos and the BMW TV-module needs to have common ground in order to sync up the video signal.

If you use a car charger for the Archos at the same time, there shouldn't be a problem, but if you are running the Archos on batteries, there's no common ground.

So he made a special cable that is grounded from the 12V output (sigarette lighter) in the rear console, and now it works with the Archos on batteries aswell; video and audio are OK.

But you only get mono audio, because of the mono tuner in the BMW TV-module...
(The cable was made so that left and right channel was merged.)
